Hello came here because I’m about to buy a Ludwig psychedelic red from 1969, I wanted to know how I differentiate from a hollywood or superclassic or other models? It comes only with one tom which is held by a bar in the kick drum.

Short answer is Hollywood is a 5-pc with two rack toms and a center-mounted (on a telescoping pole) double tom holder. It was 22/12/13/16 with a 5" supra snare. Super classic was 4-pc, 22/13/16 with 5" supra and the classic, rail-mount single tom holder the is bolted to the side of the bass drum. Check out the Ludwig section of drum archive (.com) to see catalogs from the day for more specific info. Psych red was late 60s to early 70s (not too many years, I don't believe). Those catalogs are there in PDF format. And congrats on the 69s!! (mine are 68s with clear/natural interior).

@@recordingdotpizza thank you very much! Lovely played and lovely recorded, sounds amazing the panning technique. I’ll come back to ask you about mics, preamps and mixers when I finally buy it. Thank you very much!

is that a heil on hat?
@recordingdotpizza3 жыл бұрын
It is! PR30B. Geoff Emerick used a dynamic mic, AKG's D19, on Ringo's hats (and overheads and toms). The Heil is a really nice sounding dynamic mic and has exceptional off axis rejection (more than most dynamics I've used). Did you notice the Shure 545 pair overhead? :)
