I’d agree with that sentiment only I think most generations think their era of music was the best. It’s only now that popular music is failing its youth or the youth of the times. I’ve been told by at least one old work friend in his twenties that current pop music is rubbish so I think it’s technically true . We’re running out of music and music as a medium is on life support right now and at risk of going critical!

Bananarama were never a part of Fun Boy Three, FBT were only Terry Hall, Neville Staple and Lynval Golding. The boys would later sing on the Nana's single Really Saying Something.

@@Hellwyck June Miles-Kingston was pretty important to FBT too. They also had a group of other musicians, including Caroline Lavelle on Cello, who were great. Terry Hall's brilliance, IMO, was in composing by mashing up different styles and unexpected instrumentation. BTW: This particular song was first (I think) recorded in the mid 1930s on Jimmie Lunceford's album "Sleepy Time Gal"... which explains the a lot of this video ;)

Actually I’d argue that the hair styles are fine! Certainly Siobhan and Susan ‘s hair is fine. Maybe Keren’s hair wanted to grow out a bit , but it was the early 80’s and punk styles and sticking it to “the man,” was what it was all about. I feel as though a lot of that attitude is coming back . And I’d be quite happy if more of the styles and trends from the 80’s made a comeback too! There’s a lot we need to fight back against! So a bit of 1980’s style punk rebelliousness would go down a treat right now!

Also a teen+ in the 80's but I have to chuckle at the "yet authentic" comment. This song was a hit by Jimmy Lunceford in 1939 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4TOoHdoeK6UobM. I heard it on the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel one night and it really caught my ear. Funboy 3 covered other songs including Summertime. And of course Bananarama's biggest hit (Venus) was also a cover, Soft Cell's Tainted Love, and the list goes on. Entertaining, but not original.

I had no idea this was bananarama in all my 32 years until the day it plays in my head non stop and I look it up. Absolutely incredible and this adds another level of genius to this song. Parts of the music the piano and the way the lyrics are sung always gave me a late 50s/ 60s vibe for some reason so I always assumed it was from that time. You learn something new everyday!

I heard this song a few days ago on Sirius Radio and it stuck to me...never heard it before and I'm an 80's child! I was listening to an interview with the late great Terry Hall yesterday, in tribute to his recent death, and he was asked, slightly tongue-in-cheek, whether he regretted helping make Bananarama's career, and to his credit he was quick to give a quick and unequivocal, albeit polite, 'No'. Bananarama, particularly early Bananarama, is great, and Terry, as humble and self-effacing as he was, was rightly proud of everything he did musically.
