Thanks for all this. I am just starting (this weekend ) to lay my first tracks. Your video on considerations in designing a functional yard has been the best. This video really makes me excited to start. Keep up the great work. Tony from Canada

Very nice addition to the staging yard. I have used the barrina lights and find them easy to work with and inexpensive for the quality. Thanks for sharing.

Totally agree with adding power switches for each track. It will also help when troubleshooting comes to play. Those led strips are good in that when and if they burn out, its an easy replacement. Hope you and your pup are still mending well.

Well produced and clearly explained video as always! Good to see you back at it. I’d love to see a video one day that discusses waybills: What they are, How they’re written out and How model railroaders use them on their layouts. I didn’t even know they were a thing until I saw your videos and some others and wondered, “What are those little boxes of cards for?” My ten years of HO trains as a kid were just running trains on track. My recent return to the hobby has me paying more attention to these operational features that I’ve never known about and I’d love to understand more. Thanks!

my staging yard, has room, for 10 cars and two engines, but that is my limit on my layout, as it is in a spare bedroom 9 x 12. love your layout and staging yards, wish I had the room.

Hi Ron , nice job extending the staging yard. Gives me some ideas on a staging yard. Which I want to apply to my new layout. I have some of those switches so I can cut power off to the engine shop and a couple of storage tracks. You know that was a simple fix. Because I don’t know that much about wiring. There is something special about doing some type of expansion. Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎 👍

Ron, on the loop that you added is that a reversing loop? if so do you have a video on how to wire that section up? thanks for any help.
@chadportenga78582 ай бұрын
Great video! Newbie here - so please correct me if I am wrong! I realize that space dictates a lot of design, but wondering about the blister-loops. I know it uses a little more length, but would it be easier for operations if the tracks had a by-pass design so you can pull straight in and then several adjacent tracks and routed the engines back around the cars? It just seems it may be easier than backing a long train into a dead-end track (especially if there are any curves involved).

Very nice informative video. I like what you put together. The only adjustment I would recommend is using a rotary dial switch for you track power control instead of the individual switches. Im building an 8 track staging yard right now, and plan to use an 8 position double pole rotary switch that will route power and operate the switch machines at the same time.

Great update work! Really nice design of these double deck Car Card holders. I enjoy your layout, especially since it´s N scale which I´m doing myself (albeit on a much smaller layout :-)) I also finally managed to hit that subscribe button - looking forward to your next videos!

Ron, if you had sufficient space to accommodate the second ladder, would you have made the yard double-ended, or don't you find that sufficiently desirable in a staging yard to make it worth the added expense and space it would occupy? Paul
@RonsTrainsNThings2 ай бұрын
I don't think so. With the runaround track it works pretty easily as it is and I save a bunch of switches.
@timothywinter241227 күн бұрын
Ron, I didn't notice any dropper wires being installed on the extended tracks, did you just not show that activity or have you just powered all the tracks from the 'entrance' end of each road?
@elliotttipper6612 ай бұрын
Hey Ron, great video. Do you use caulking because it allows a bit of flexibility instead of a typical glue?

Yes, but also not adheres well to track and wood.

@rayopeongo2 ай бұрын
@@RonsTrainsNThings So, easements are more for looks than error free operations? Or squeezing in smaller radii?

In model applications yes, unless you are running VERY high speed trains.

Checked out the LED lights on Amazon and was startled to find numerous evaluations from customers that they burn out after 1-2 years. At about $10/3ft unit I can't afford to be replacing these every other year 😮
@RonsTrainsNThings2 ай бұрын
I understand your concern there and it's your decision clearly, but, for what it's worth, looking back at the Amazon reviews, out of 800+ reviews, 85% were 4 or 5 stars. I've had 18 of them in my layout and 8 in my utility room for 4 years without a single failure...but I am just one guy.
@openeyes-4112 ай бұрын
Bill, something else to keep in mind about Amazon reviews is that they're not always for the exact product you're looking at... If a mfgr offers several variations they seem to clump the reviews all together - thus if these are offered in color changing varieties or with dimmers (just spitballing here) people may be complaining about those versions.
