Marta Cárdenas (San Sebastián, 1944) returned from studying in Paris to "work hard on the canvas", according to Fernando Zóbel. Initiated in portraiture, she plants herself in the middle of nature which she synthesizes in two sittings and moves on to the study of movement at the Madrid Zoo. From water to the "waiting zen" of the smoking bonfires of El Escorial, and from there to her travels, from which she remembers the color of a hundred different hats and distant cultures of India, which embark her towards abstraction. She travels to Japan three times, where she learns to capture separately the energy of the symbols of classical calligraphy.
