From any given AF value, to have the decimal value, multiply the IP precedence *8 then, Drop Probabilty *2. Then Add both of them. ie AF43 = (4*8) + (3*2) = 32+6 = 38:)

You are an absolutely phenomenal teacher! I love the mix of metaphors, practical applications, and theory you use to teach a concept... the combo of all three really makes the concepts stick in the mind. Keep up the great work!

Amazing video Kevin. When I was in my college cisco classes, we briefly skimmed over QoS, and I'll admit that it absolutely bored me out of my mind. This had my full attention throughout the entire video, and I can't believe how easy you made it with your explanations and examples. Thank you so much!

I have a question. if there's a topology with N switch and 1 router (firewall) for the connection to the internet if I want to prioritize the voip traffic should I use dscp to mark the traffic and configure it inbound on all the switch interface and in other switches? when the traffic has to go out on the internet is it privileged also outgoing when it crosses the firewall?

So to use the soupnazi analogy, he would be more akin to a Policer than a shaper due to his harshness of punishment. He refuses you service, drops you in effect. But shaping is more like, okay go to the back of the line for your infraction and I will call on you when I have the means to deal with your request. I say back of the line but it is queued, it fit with the concept of soupnazi

With the probability of a drop, everything is clear. What is the role of a Сlass in the AF table? Does the Class matter in WRR, CQ, WFQ, CBWFQ and Drop Probability in congestion avoidance mechanisms?

Thank you Kevin for this well explained video. My question is what is the difference between RSVP and Class Based WFQ?
@bluebear6313
@bluebear6313 2 жыл бұрын
RSVP reserves bandwidth end-to-end, even if it doesn't use the data. It is wasteful but the delivery is guaranteed. Similar to how old telephone calls, only you had the line. CB-WFQ is per packet at each interface, every interface can also have different rules. For example your router could prioritise voice, MPLS would also prioritise it if agreed with your provider. However the internet would ignore is and send it first in first out.

Hello Kevin, I find this a great video, thanks for sharing this video with us. I have a question, what is your view on the whole point of having different classes with the dscp values if in the end the right most bits are only being looked at for the drop probability? what do classes 1 to 4 differ from each other?

AKA the method by which ISPs will create those "fast lanes" now that Title 2 has been repealed, which prevented them from taking "a bribe" from larger corporations and allowing their traffic to jump to the head of the line.

Hi Kevin, I was just wondering, at 1:13:29 the Bit Combination of 01 is said to be ECN capable but not experiencing congestion, the same as 11. (within the table in the bottom left) However I thought that 01 combination should be ECN in-capable, but experiencing congestion as the first bit (ECT) is 0, indicating it is not ECN capable, and the second bit (CE) is 1 meaning that congestion is experienced? This bit has left me a little confused and was wondering if you could help me out a little bit?

@ 1:19:35 In times of congestion how does the remaining bandwidth gets distributed between the queues once minimums are satisfied. In your example, pretend that Call Signaling, Network Control and Bulk Data are asking for 2 Mbps, while there is no Critical Data being sent at this time. Once the required 1 Mbps of bandwidth is is allocated between the three, will the remainder of the traffic be distributed evenly?
