I really like how it turned out too! I might like it better if you Dyed Under Ice (DUI?) to get better defined colors. But, TRUST THE MUCK!!! I'm always amazed the muck won't muck up the colors so much you can't see the individual colors! Your geod tying comes out great! I do especially like the line defining the geod part from the gravity part. The gravity part does have a very nice flowy feel. Really turned out great! Thanks Angie! 🥰

Do you think the white in the geode is because it was wet when dyed? I am like you I always allow my geodes to dry before dying. I was amazed how the shirt wicked all that muck! Well done and I learned a lot, thank you.
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
Yes, that is probably the reason why. I think it's amazing how the dye moves on these gravity dyes.
@timwax73182 жыл бұрын
Love the shirt, and love the geodes. My question is what is the advantage/disadvantage of Mc dying?
@timwax73182 жыл бұрын
*muck
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! When you muck dye, you don't have to build an ice barrier for odd shaped folds. The shirt will also have a bit of a darker feel to it. You usually don't have to be concerned about saturation since the shirt is inside of the muck (you still can have saturation issues though if the shirt was too damp when it was dyed or if there was too much ice added). In this case the muck is what dyes the gravity dye portion of the shirt. In contrast, rack dyeing usually gives a brighter shirt where the colors aren't as muted or muddled. You can add more ice as needed to make sure you have the saturation you want throughout your item. You can also see the back side of the item you are dyeing to check your color saturation.

I love your videos and this shirt looks amazing. I have been wanting to ask, do you have any special techniques and tips for dyeing as the weather gets colder? The 90 degree summer weather helped lock in the dye and get some great saturation in color. I’m feeling like when I leave my projects out in the cooler temperatures I am not getting the same saturation. What do you do to keep your projects going though the cooler months?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I prefer the warmer months too for tie dyeing. Thankfully I have a temperature controlled tie dye space to dye in during the colder months, but the hot summer weather is always better. If you don't though, I know a lot of people use heated blankets to warm up the containers that their tie dyes are in. You can also leave your tie dyes to process for longer if the weather isn't warm. Even if it is a bit cooler, putting a lid on your tie dye container and placing it outside in the sun also helps.

@@timothyfoster59 You're welcome. I hope you find a solution that works for you. If you live where you get a lot of snow, winter is the perfect time for ice dyeing.
@timothyfoster592 жыл бұрын
In about 8-10 weeks I’ll probably have more snow than I know what to do with. I for sure will have to experiment a little with some winter ice dyeing. I’ve enjoyed ice dyeing over the summer and have been considering experimenting with HWI I haven’t tried it yet. I’m also going to experiment with using a tote like a greenhouse to keep the heat in. That’s a good idea.
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
@@timothyfoster59 If you get that much snow, then ice dyeing will be great for you. You can ice dye and then finish your item off with a little HWI if you are concerned they didn't get warm enough.

Maybe when you see the streaks the way you liked instead of considering pulling it out elevate that end of the shirt? If you force the dye to have to go uphill it will move less I think. I have had and end of a shirt, that I didn't want dyed and had covered in a bag go off the end of a rack and end up filled with dye as it wicks! It really tries to go downhill!
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
You can also pull the shirt out of the muck when you see the bottom portion looking the way that you want it to and just place it on a rack to continue to process. I think it would still continue to wick dye even uphill, not as quickly though. I've had the same thing happen with a bag too. The dye really does like to travel and spread out.
