The scientific method. Come up with a hypothesis, develop an experiment to determine a result, compare result to hypothesis. Great job of experimenting and allowing everyone to see your results. In comparison the twist shirt looks like an explosion in space and the scrunch shirt looks like when that explosion has settled down millions of years later. Both are very awesome and this color is spectacular.

Hi Angie. I think that the twist splits the color, more, possibly because the larger folds allow more dye migration and movement. Maybe more experiments with differing fold heights would help nail down more uses for these cool dyes, and how to use them to best effect. Cool! Keith M.
@FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
I agree that the splits show up more on the twist. I think the movement down the shirt allows larger streaks of the colors that have split out to show up. I had the same thought about fold heights and so I did an experiment using different size wiffle balls and even used some foil balls to see if the shirts looked vastly different.

Ty much!❤ This was very helpful, for I am working on making some swatches of my Dharma dyes and I was not sure how I wanted to make my swatches. It was between these 2 options that r in ur video that I had in mind 😀so that worked out harmoniously butttt I honestly am not able to decide rn.. hmm.. Sooo what I'm thinking is that because my swatches aren't going to be that large I won't be able to use any wiffleballs unless they're really tiny and I don't think they make them that small lol . So, unless I think of an alternative for the tiny with all balls, I think I have to go with the incline twist. Althoughhhhh another option I was thinking about doing my swatches in was the "Kaleidoscope" fold and roll. Like the one off of -Naccy Gammon's yt video. She is awesome like u😊 And the video is pretty helpful and fun like urs too! I cannot make up my mind! 😅 What do you think I should do? Your opinion would mean boat loads to me if u would lmk🤩😋

Hi! In my opinion, incline twists show the most color splits for me. Everyone has a little different technique though. I tend to be heavy-handed with dye, but the incline twist works and allows the color splits to really show up. @FunEndeavors Жыл бұрын
I don't think it was how tight you twisted it - I think it was probably the fabric. Hoodies are pretty thick and I think the dye wasn't able to travel down the fabric as well as it does on a t-shirt.

Love both! I´m a total newbie to Tie Dying, is this a special color that "splits" while dying?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Most colors of dye are mixed colors and "split" out the component colors used to mix the dye when they are used for ice dyeing. A few colors are pure pigments and won't split when used for ice dyeing. When any of these colors are used as a liquid, they don't split. They are a solid color. This particular color was mixed by Happy Cat Tie Dye specifically to give great color splits.

Does it take special dye to get color splits?
@FunEndeavors2 жыл бұрын
Most Procion fiber reactive dyes are mixtures. There are a few colors that are pure colors and they won't split, but a majority of the colors are mixtures and will split into the component colors used to make the mixture. Some colors are better at splitting and have more dramatic splits. Amanda at Happy Cat Tie Dye formulates beautiful colors to have gorgeous color splits like this one. If you are looking at the colors Dharma Trading Company offers, if there are letters after the dye color name, they won't split. In general the darker the color, the more dramatic the splits. For example, black usually splits out all kinds of interesting colors. Some colors may just have a hint of another color that shows up though.

No, you can liquid dye with it as well. I actually haven't ever mixed any of the Happy Cat dyes as a liquid so I'm not totally sure what the color would be though. I purchase them specifically for ice dyeing. You may be able to see the liquid dyed color on the website.

Most Procion MX fiber reactive dye colors are mixtures and so they will split into the component colors that were used to make the mixture. The pure pigment dye colors won't split. However, most dye colors don't split this much. I think that Happy Cat mixed this color specifically for the spectacular color splits.
