Honestly, for someone with strong ADHD like me, Ahab in particular has been a great help to focus on work. Funeral doom drowns you in such a dense atmosphere, that it absorbs all possible distractions around you, while still being boring enough to not become a distraction itself. Together with my medication, this really helps me to get shit done.

If You wanna play some Funeral doom, you should get yourself a calendar! ...instead of metronome, tune your guitar three octaves below (and drop the last string whole step lower after that), drummer is using baseball bats instead of drumsticks (or wroomsticks - that's allowed)... On the liveshow vocalist sings laying in coffin, or under the noose xD

I didn't get into to Funeral doom until my 30s. I thought it was boring, too until Spotify recommended the bands Bellwitch, Lycus, Un, and Mournful Congregation. Those bands have an easier form of the genre to get into. They're more melodic, theatrical, or epic and that's why they're easier to listen to? I'm not sure. The earlier bands had a much more raw sound and was off putting to me when I was younger. Or maybe it's because I'm getting older and slower by nature... that is closer to death lol.

I recommend you try Shape of Daspair, their first and last albums are solid. Last one maybe a little bit boring but still has a nice atmosphere

I recommend you listen to some bands like Funeral, Until Death Overtakes Me, Lethargy of Death, Abyssmal Sorrow(a blackened funeral doom metal band), Aphonic Threnody, Solemn They Await, Fecund Betrayal, Corvus Corone, Dauðaró, Horre, Slow, Remembrance, Funeris, Thergothon, etc...

I've actually fallen asleep while playing funeral doom. I was even recording it at the time and it's hard to tell if I actually managed to play one more note or my hand just hit the string accidentally as I fell asleep.

Actually that is perfect a band called bell witch actually only has a bass player and drummer who do all the vocals from clean/harsh and occasionally used keyboards and even organ. I believe they either use distortion or fuzz on the bass which makes it easy to mistake it for guitar don’t quote me on that though.

There's Funeral, of course, Thergothon, Evoken, Ea, Ahab, Mournful Congregation, Loss, Usnea, Lycus, HellLight... Some of this bands might not be Funeral Doom, purely, but are some of the bands I really enjoyed. Swallow the Sun realesed a triple album, three different styles, one was a Funeral Doomish and I really love it. Anyway, remembered more than I thought I would. Will now give a listen to some Funeral Doom. :p

Try Monotony Fields by Shape of Despair or any Mournful Congregation album. All the funny stereotypes about Funeral Doom in this video are present in them to some extent but they all actually sound pretty damn good and the bleak and melancholy atmosphere is truly unmatched by other "depressing" music genres.

I've also never really liked the keys in Funeral Doom, always thought they sounded goofy. Melodic lead lines and ambient textures are both cool, but not when they're being played by cartoon pipe organs. Love the raw, extreme "Torture Doom" stuff like Wormphlegm and Trees, so slow and fucking evil it starts to degrade into dark ambient.
