Yena will be remembered: As a Homeland leader, the power of Buthelezi depended on the South African state and economy. With anti-apartheid leaders inside South Africa and abroad demanding sanctions, Buthelezi came to be regarded more and more as a government puppet, along with other Bantustan leaders. His tribal loyalties and focus on ethnic interests over national unity were also criticised as contributing to the divisive programme of Inkatha. This led to a virtual civil war between Zulu loyalist supporters and ANC members in KwaZulu-Natal.[15] Although the IFP were allied with the African National Congress in the struggle against apartheid they took opposing views on sanctions placed by the international community on South Africa. In 1984, Buthelezi travelled to the USA and met personally with President Ronald Reagan and argued divestment was economically harming black South African workers.[16]

To be against the ANC does not mean he was supporting the apartheid, Mr OR in London wanted the IFP to endorse the policy imposing economic sanctions and armed struggle, and Buthelezi didn't agree, he said he prefer "non violence negotiations" the black on black violence was a result of that armed struggle he was against. Most civilians suffered from that ANC struggle. People were killed and burned with tires in Pretoria, they even called Buthelezi, and he said, "You can travel across the world, there is no case against someone who protects himself." Mean they have to protect themselves. "Divisive programme of Inkatha" you distort it, they were against the system downgrading traditional leadership and they were concern about the King's land that was about to be snatched,
