As a trained professional musician, who grew up when they played this song during inner city house parties, where folks didn't get shot! A time when folks went out to have a good time and dance, this is without a doubt at the top of the list of the funkiest songs OF ALL TIMES! As a musician every time I listen to it, the complexities of Clinton's vocal arrangements, the genius of Bernie Worrell's musical arrangement, the serious FUNK on the One and of course Phillipe Wynn's incredible vocal vamp and the use of the cuica (what?) no conservatory needed!

This was a time when the words and musical skills was key in making a hit....now all you have to have is some cursing, some sampled music that not many people remember, and some fine big busted women with a big ole butt to have a hit.....and Hell not even the young people know what they saying......I'll Pass!!!!!!!!!!

you know with all this crazy mess happening right now i wish,i had the power to just plug the world up with a big ass amp, equalizer and headphones and whatever they mood was i would just flood the world with music and it would stop all the madness and music would just play and they would still be able to do theyre daily task, and jobs, i would just say they will be able to exsist. the world would be joyous all the time love and music would conquer all negative ciphers. that would be great hahaha lmao just saying. music and love conquers all!! something about the music!!!!!!!

No lie. EVERY December 25 I recite Kurtis Blow's "Christmas Rappin'." ALSO class of '80. Bought all the albums then, I remember ConFunkShun, Gap Band, Sweat Band, Change, Shalamar was in its middle of its three phases, EWF was following up "I Am" LP with "Let's Groove" single. In college, I'd stretch out for cross-country practice in the gym where the basketball team had tape players.
PARLIAMENT-FUNKADELIC, (not just) KNEE DEEP...EXTENDED
