Thanks! Extremely impressive and my most favorite Monologue ambient tune I've heard yet! I bought a Monologue and a Deepmind 12 last July and I've hardly tinkered with the Monologue devoting my time to the DM12. You've inspired me to give the Monologue more attention. I can't get my mind around how you achieved this magically brilliant soundscape but I'm going to study your video and try something similar using a ZOOM MS-70CDR (it has shimmer too with multi-FX stacking capabilities) and an 'ancient' Korg Electribe ER-1 for the rhythm. I never considered pairing the ZOOM with the Monologue until now. I'll try to coax some spacey vibes from them thanks to getting inspired by your superb improvisations! Subscribed!
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
Yes MS-70CDR can handle this ... not as brilliant as RV-500 but you can get 80%.... BTW I was in the same boat. The monologue was just collecting dust while I played with 0-coast and softpop. Then I've seen other people pushing single voice machines to do whole tune. So I got this working I guess :) I'm back in love with monologue although the envelops are not as snappy as boutique machines (yes I think that way). DM12 is a great machine I wish I had a need for that or the Peak (novation) I have a lot of boards M3/kronos so I cannot justify space and time. You know monologue is machine with 15+ knobs I suppose it is easy to reach the "land of discovery" as I call it. That is the time when you know the envelopes, oscillators, mod matrix ... :) then a real creation in sounds come out of me. Then a plateau comes and I hit a limitation that is just too annoying and I don't turn that unit on for a few months and cycle repeats. Soon you will see new videos with NC, E2 and Deluge. In each of them I found another dimensions that was not there (gained new experience etc)
@factckzone75336 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply and all the other valuable insights into your creative process. I appreciate it. I've come back and listened to your dark jam often during the past few months but I overlooked your reply so I'm just giving a courtesy reply now. Also, I'll be checking out some of your other videos too. :) I did use the Zoom MS-70 with the Monologue and had lots of fun just goofing off and auditioning some of the more ambient presets. But I wanted more so I bought a DSI Rev2-16 last February. The Monologue isn't forgotten though, I'm just trying to fit it into the mix.

Really nice I didn't think of the monologue as an ambient style instrument.
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
No you shouldn't. Unless you like mono voice ambient vibes:) I just pushed the envelope here to get the monologue to the ambient territory. Remember, the RV-500's shimmer reverb can dial 2 steps so you can crate a chord from a shimmer reverb. You might see me reaching for RV-500 that is where I change the 3rd from minor to major as I need :)
@woodswalker887 жыл бұрын
I wonder if you could run the Monolog thru Ableton and get some delay & reverb effects. I've been mostly an ableton user till recently. Still not sure if the Monolog is for me. How well does it sync MIDI clock with other instruments (Roland JX03)
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
Well I'm in different boat although I have push2 and ableton too. ... I just hate using computer for music (video editing is a different ball game) Just get a simple audio interface (check Jakob Haq channel) Beringher makes one for $20 that one would help you to run everything to ableton but then you still need to deal with sync (just in the case if you run the sequencer on monologue) . ...About syncing boutique with monologue ? Sync is flawless if you know a bit about midi. It should run both direction monolgue master boutique slave. I choose master based on ability to mess up the BPM while performing. The harder to set BPM the better the device as master clock Oh the JX03 is so sweet .. I have some new videos in queue with that one. I think JX03 has snappier envelope than monologue don't know why but that is my impression: )
@richardloukes29346 жыл бұрын
I use the monologue through ableton and use its delay, reverb and other effects. Personally I think it works very well and you can completely alter and mangle the sound of the monologue as much or as little as you want. if I remember right the bassline in this track was done with the monologue through ableton and effects. soundcloud.com/draco74/stranger-something

Just one, remember RV-500 really helps with the shimmer reverb tuning the two shimmer voices to third and seventh. I have other setups:) The one with pyramid sequencer is more towards $2k with two boutiques and 3 zoom pedals. But yes I try to do minimize a mobile setups and squeeze as much as I can. I have a lot more stuff coming up softpop with po-16 and zoom BT that is $470 ... well volca so $600... it is some great stuff too... so stay tuned !

really nice sound - can you explain a bit more about your set-up, like is the PO going into the Reverb, and what's the pad just to the right of your Mono, and is there any other hardware off-screen?
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
No other off-screen device. That is my niche NOT to use ANY other devices. I've had people "accusing" to do some monkey stuff on some Novation Circuit recordings. But NO, I use BPM delay with carefully selected levels so that the delay does not cut trough the recording. Basically what you hear and see is what I used to create the sound. The "pad" next to the monologue is the recording device korg kaossmini pad. It helps me with some ad-lib effects. But in this recording I have not used any effects from the Kaoss Mini . The monologue goes directly to RV-500 where I use shimmer reverb to add third and fifth tone via shimmer reverb parameters (very subtle so it is hard to recognize) to form a semi chord... The Tonic (PO) goes directly to KPM no effects....and that is IT no other device used. (!) Then the recording goes from the Micro SD card to Ipad for some EQ and compression, to smooth-up some volume level jumps. That is all. No computer involved (only to edit the video in the imovie)
@cresshead7 жыл бұрын
here's my issue with the arturia, as a minibrute owner - setting the midi channel requires a computer and their app, yamaha reface- non standard midi connections - loose the adapter - loose midi novation circuit - non standard midi connections - loose the adapter - loose midi korg electribe 2 - - non standard midi connections - loose the adapter - loose midi elektron digitakt - no way to back up your work at all still. what happens in 5 or 10 years time...will they still run on your computer and will this non standard adapters be available?
