The Philly soul sound had a major influence on Bruce Springsteen. He sampled it heavily, trying to capture its wistfulness and a hope laced with personal defeat. Dammit! I listened to this in the office and my colleague was sitting there Photoshoppin' and Adobe Illustratin' and suddenly her hair blew up and became a huge Afro and she ends all of her sentences with "...baby" or "peace".
