Yes it was originally a British quiz show, but it also ended up being on American TV aswell, so that quote would of also of become known in the US, hence why they used that quote in this movie. Seeing as this is an American movie, it wouldn't of made sence for them to of put that quote in this film if it was only gonna be known by a UK audience.
