It's also twice as funny to those who said that Larry was the toughest gym leader during the interview, only to be shocked like in the last clip. In all seriousness, Larry is the GOAT. Not only does he have his job as a salaryman, he also has to work as both a gym leader and an elite four member. He lives up to the title of "Exceptional Everyman".

​@@midnights2631 One of Larry's Pokemon is a Dundunsparce that knows Drill Run, Hyper Drill, and Glare. Drill Run is a ground move with 80 power and a higher than average crit rate (12.5% rather than 4.2%). Hyper Drill is a normal move with 100 power and it bypasses Protect, Magic Coat, and Snatch. Also both moves are physical, which is Dundunsparce's second highest stat after HP and have an accuracy of 95 and 100 respectively. As for Glare, that's to que up Larry's final revenge. Because his signature Pokemon is a Staraptor that knows Facade, which deals double damage if the target is Sleeping, Poisoned, or Paralyzed. So even if you defeated his Dundunsparce, as long as it managed to get off a Glare and paralyze your 'Mon then it will still have queued you up to get nuked the next turn. To put it simply, Larry's not the most difficult gym leader but his Dundunsparce hits like a truck and has a habit of catching inexperienced players by surprise. More than one player has had most of their team 1-hit KO'd, giving Larry this aura of looking unassuming on the outside but an incarnation of pure violence in battle

That's exactly how I guessed his type, lol. Rika was the only one whose outfit seemingly didn't have any subtle hints towards her type specialty (Poppy had that metallic-looking key, and, even if you didn't take Hassel's classes, he has a cape very similar in style to Dragon trainers). By a stretch, you could maybe say her tie does, but that's by color only, so I don't really classify it as a hint.

That's because he's the only one where Terrastalization isn't a weakness. With almost every other gym leader, their Terra just paints a bigger target on them. Because Larry's Tera Type is Normal, Staraptor's only weakness is Fighting, but Staraptor is also a Flying Type so it can fuck up any fighting type you throw at it. The only one who even tries something similar is Grusha, but Ice has more than one weakness, unlike Normal, so it's not as effective. I wish all Gym Leaders had followed a similar pattern.

Staraptor specifically targets fighting types, it's only slightly slower, and hits harder. It has worse defenses overall but can deal with its weaknesses more effectively than Iono. Now, if you KNOW what Larry will do, you can bring a bulky non-fighting type with good fighting moves and crush him, but that applies to all gym leaders.

In my case, Iono’s gym was the hardest for me since I had nothing for Electric-types. Larry’s gym was a cakewalk. I just sent in my Sharpness Gallade and swept with Sacred Sword.

Yeah, Iono was tougher for me too. I knew it would involve more than the Ground weakness, so I had some Grass and Electric Types that would take less damage. But that didn’t really help against her Wattrel and Mismagius. That’s not to say Larry wasn’t tough. My team wasn’t prepared for sleep or Ground moves… but his Staraptor couldn’t outlast my Skeledirge.

This brings back memories of my elite four run, lmao. He was the only one I legit remembered in that moment, and that's just cause I thought I was being funny. I was blind to the match ups, so when I went in and saw Larry, the very same leader I said was roughest for me to beat, I legitimately thought they programmed the game so that no matter who you picked for that quiz, they'd show up. Funniest moment of my playthrough even when I realized I was wrong

What is funny is that there are hints to his being a part of the Elite Four set up in his gym, the fact his Tie never changes and has clouds on them if you pay attention, His Ace both times is Staraptor, A Normal Flying type, hell if you want to get into the odd territory, he talks about how his boss makes him try harder as a gym leader, the fact he talks about doing overtime later, and hell, the move he gives you after his fight is Facade, much like how some bosses send an elite member to do things at lower levels to get a read on how everyone is doing there
