Trump participated in the online chess tournament and that was the deciding game for which team goes to finals. The check and mate that Trump did is very unusual : a lot of chess pieces are still on the board, White's king is on the other side of the board and Black's king is in the middle of the board. But the funniest part probably is that that Trump did not realize that the last move was actually check and mate, he thought it was just a check and realized that he had won the game only when the sign popped up.

Trump was down material and under time pressure (ie losing both on the board and on the clock). In his effort to stay alive he moved his pieces in such a way that he checkmated his opponent. Given Trump’s reaction it seems like he didn’t realize it was mate until he saw the victory pop-up.
