Like other species, the gender is often apparent based on the feminine or masculine look in the face without having to look at the business end of things so to speak.

Have an orange tabby that cared for 3 of ours when we brought them home (2 were from the same litter but were young, and one was taken from its mom too early, so has no self-control), he was patient with them and basically acted like a big ol' grandpa/dad cat to them. Our girls (3 of them) practically wanted nothing to do with them at first until they calmed down. One was even a mother at one point herself.

I think male cats are more patient, but it depends of the personality of the cat. Cats can hurt puppies' eyes so the owner should be really careful towards "meetings" between cats and puppies.

@@djbenje4019 That's incorrect. I've had cats for years. When a cat hisses at something it can be expressing many things, you've got to look at the body language too. In this case the hiss meant the puppies were invading personal space and making the cat feel uncomfortable, despite this the cat was still interested to be friends and have cuddles. Just needed to accustomise. Animals are generally more emotionally intelligent than people, as you prove.

My cat was 2 years old... fully grown... when I brought in a tiny puppy like these guys (smaller though) and he was clearly annoyed. He never did a thing that might hurt the little Labrador/Boxer mix of puppy energy! Fast forward 2 years and they are the best of friends! Now it's the 60 pound dog who'd never consider harming the 7 pound cat. She's an absolute doll with him... she used to cuddle into his belly... now it's his turn to cuddle up into all that heat!
