My girl had a litter of five kittens. And when they finally were able to eat, we used a large dinner plate. The first instinct of kittens is to fight for food. Growling and threatening each other. But we would monitor the feeding time and quickly correct the kittens with a parental "No". "Share, this is the family plate". Soon they learned to quiet down and all of them learned to peacefully eat together including their Mom and Dad. 8 Cats fed from one large plate as a close family. They can be taught to respect each other.

Hey that's true, my friend's cat is so well pampered that each time he wants to eat she has to accompany him, if she walks away the cat will stop eating, run to her and start meowing loudly, as if to say "come back here, I cannot eat alone".

Kittens aren't toys. They really need a bowl each and shouldn't be teased at feeding time as this can make them spiteful towards each other and humans. If a young child copies human bad behaviour and gets scratched, the kitten will often be destroyed because it's got a 'bad temperament'.

Cute kittens grow into cats which are often less cute. Adopting a cat is a life-long committment that involves vet bills, making arrangements for the cats if you want to go on vacations and so on. Then there is the possibility of clawed furniture and sometimes clawed humans. I share my home with three cats, one pictured here, so I know what I am talking about. I love them dearly but cats are not toys to be discarded when you get tired of them or when they are no longer cute kittens.

please will someone explain to me what is funny? the cats in these videos are being either overtly or passively abused, and their reaction is a natural one of self defense and provoked aggressiveness, and they are not happy. I don't get why this is cute, please tell me? And why don't these pairs of cats have two bowls? It's such a simple business, cats are naturally extremely cordial to each other and very hierarchically oriented. what is funny or amusing about disrupting their collegiality and sociality? Also please explain to me why it is cute to physically assault a kitten while it is trying to eat? (consider the size of the kitten compared to your finger, if this seems an exaggeration. This would be like someone poking you with a battering rod in the ribs while you try to eat. I wish that would happen on youtube so we can laugh at you. the anger this raises in me is suprising. Helen Lauer I can understand what you mean, I agree that it's really not funny how people poked that little kitten while eating. It's not right, to disturb cats while they are eating, because this is their comfort-zone. But in the other videos with the two cats fighting over their food, most of the times there was a second bowl in the background which was already empty eaten. So I assume, that the other cat already ate his food and tried to "steal" also the food of his buddy. A friend of mine had three cats, and one of them was such a "foodie" that he did the same thing, and my friend had to watch very closely that the rest of the cats got their food too. Because this cat always ate very fast his own food and then went to the other bowls and tried to steal the rest of the food. :-P

Anita, I have to disagree with you. I agree completely with Helen, as you can see in the comment which I wrote 3 days ago. It is not acceptable to tease cats just to make humans laugh. But I should add that I also hate the Candid Camera type of videos (I haven't seen any recently, thank goodness) where they play tricks on humans, just to laugh at them. Cats, if you get to know them, all have different personalities just like humans. I know it may sound strange but I think one should respect each cat (and other animals) just as we humans want to be respected.

Our ability to learn to share as humans is truly a blessing... Baby Ranger that's not true at all. I have dozens of cats in my life and not once did we have to "teach them" how to share. They just shared. We had bowls all over the place lying around. We would go through 20 wet cans a day and a bag of dry food a week and never had any problems with them. Just make sure they all have their own dish and they should be fine.

Bonnie, I agree. I love cats and I love to watch videos of cats playing or romping . One of the ones I liked the best was when the owners took pictures of the kittens from the time they were born and followed through every week or two. Some siamese i had used to grunt at lunch time but forcing them to be together solved the problem. Our tabby cats nowadays usually don't fight but the male eats firts and puts a paw over the food to let clear the female that he has privileges. Once he leaves she waites almost a minute watching him go over the distance and then she eats. A lion in a small body, such a miserable cat! :)

This was not a funny video. Disturbing cats while they're eating just to get a "funny" reaction out of them is not funny. Cats react that way because they are feeling threatened and if it happens often enough, it could make them more food aggressive and more nervous while eating. Cats are nervous eaters to begin with; it's a part of their survival instinct. Disturbing a cat while it's eating can cause unnecessary anxiety and stress to some cats. It may even cause them to be wary of eating for awhile. I hope that most people are more sensitive to their kitties needs. Please don't bother them when they are eating. Cats don't think it's funny either.

It's not funny. If any of my cats would do that it would be corrected immediately. I rescue and have been in shelters have seen this type of problem. This leads to future problems if not corrected early. Usually if the mom is around she corrects it by a tap on the head..

I thought this would be funny but it is just the opposite. Why would you play with your cat or dog while they are eating? That is just stupid. And to have only one bowl for multiple cats is ignorant. Do you have one plate of food for all family members? Of course not. No, this video isn't funny. It is sad that people do this just to make a video.
