When we married almost 39 years ago I ordered our wedding cake and it was beautiful. It had lots of stunning icing designs on it. So you think it's going to be perfect for when you cut your cake lots of lovely photographs and be a memorable part of our wedding day. Here is the not so nice part! We were at a hotel for our reception on the first floor, lovely room, wedding cake is on its stand of 3 tiers by the window. Then the unexpected happened, during the speeches we heard a loud band!,the cake had toppled over and hit the window. One side was completely ruined, but we did get to cut out cake for memorable photos as we turned it around so you couldn't see the bashed in side! We still laugh about it, as we were on the 1st floor, we were above a popular store. Can you imagine if the cake fell out of the window and onto somebody ha ha! No one would believe them if they went into A & E and said they were accosted by a low flying wedding cake ha ha! Definitely a memorable part of our wedding day : 0 ) x ❤

It was 5 days before our 42nd wedding anniversary. We're devastated and our missing piece will always be here with us in our hearts and memories 😪

When you get married it’s usually a moment filled with hopes and dreams and plans for the future..life doesn’t care about your plans, and can throw some pretty wicked curve balls..( much like their cake)...these are the things that can break a marriage, despite all the best intentions of those concerned..I find it to be a good omen that in the midst of the cake chaos the figurines depicting the husband and wife were still standing together serenely on top of it all. May they stay like that forever..

@@Mabeitsmabeline Not so much bad, just a slight miscommunication. It is clearly a well made cake and the person making it knew what they were doing. The color combination is indeed a bit strange for a wedding but not too outlandish. Anyone with a sense of humor will have a lought about it at the wedding.

@@grumbeard looking at it from a cake decorators perspective, it is pretty bad. Especially the lack of proper blending of the colors, the white on top isn't blended properly into the sides whatsoever, and the way they swirled the frosting on top looks sloppy as well. If they were to use those colors, they should of at the very least tried to blend them more evenly and add more white to the sides and transition it better on the top, and skip the swirl.

@@Mabeitsmabeline I personally think that from an artistic point it looks pretty good, the pattern formed on top of the first layer is attractive and very nice looking and the way the colors blend of the sides isn't bad, yeah it isn't colors that suit a wedding but it's still a well decorated cake.

8:40 is a fine copy. Most expectation photos are cheats anyway, they only look good but are usually inedible But if I saw this wedding cake, I wouldn't even know the bride thought it was a fail

Looking at every original and copy cake, this one is the best I have ever seen. I mean of course you cant make a perfect copy and maybe somethings could be changed in that one like the plastic bow, but of all of every copy I saw, that's definitely the best

Ikr most expectation photos are cheats anyway. They just look perfect because there's alot of inedible stuffs added to make it look more sturdy for the photo shoot The copy was decent. Just more rounded but it doesn't look bad at all

Uh, it looks nothing like the cake they ordered, and many couples get obsessed with everything being perfect and all about the image. So I can see why they hated it, even though I personally wouldn’t have cared. I don’t even remember what my wedding cake looked like, because it’s not that important to me. Most of these failures were due to customers who saw some brilliant work on wedding magazines, but instead turn to a cheap bakers that make poor promises. My experience in a birthday party where the host ordered a two tiers birthday cake, the cake arrived 6 hours late and looked like it results from a road accident. It turned out that the baker works at home and took more orders than she could handle, also she has never done a multi-tier cake before and simply took promise from a photo that the host sent her. LESSON HERE: Don't go cheap on important events, or you'll be laughing stock for life.

Some of these cakes were frosted b4 they were cooled completely, the collapsed sides n sloppy pooled icing shows that. Some were just made by ppl taking instructions far too literally or not able to fully understand American spoken English if those 2 facts coincide the results are often sad for all involved. Some of these cakes were exactly on point if you really don't care what anyone thinks including your spouse, in laws n your mother about your sense of taste & propriety. Good luck getting married then, why not just buy the cake n have a party minus the wedding. Some others were fails because of the delivery person n had little to do with the baker or the wedding- accidents happen.

A few years ago a British last make a cake that made international news. A little girl requested a snake cake for her birthday....and the baker had a phobia of snakes😅. But the baker kept her word, did research, and did a really realistic albino coiled up ball python cake! Not only did doing that cake cure the bakers phobia of snakes....her business went thru the roof with requests. The family LOVED IT. That was a very happy birthday girl indeed 😄 🐍

My mom loved being in charge, and in control, she insisted my wedding be at her house and my husband and I were so poor we didn't have any choice, my mom said her wedding gift would be the wedding cake, now she made cakes for all 5 kids for all our growing up, and never made a mess, but on my wedding she made the cake with the frosting as hard as rock candy. My mom loved embarrassing me my whole life, she acted like she didn't know what to do, lucky a lady guest, came and fixed it. Then my mom started making fun of how the photos were taken, not even on my wedding day could she not make fun of me. That was many years ago and I still remember the pain in my heart. I have forgiven her but I don't go around my family they don't respect my feelings.

I wondered whether some of the bakers would have Trading Standards down on their heads as regards advertising vs reality. But the last picture illuminated it for me -- people are taking pictures of other cakes to a baker and then getting squidge back. I'm so glad we went with plain white M&S cakes for my wedding in the UK. No harm in getting professionally made cakes, then sourcing flowers and toppers elsewhere. We had toy birds in a cute pink and blue nesting box -- hubby (RIP) was a keen amateur birdwatcher -- to buck the awful trend over here for bird cages on cakes. I mean, what bride wants to look at her cake and see the 'trapped' symbolism of a gilded cage?!

Oh wow, so many bad decisions here! With a lot of these, the “original” cakes are simply above most bakers’ skill sets. They should be telling potential customers ‘NO, I CAN’T DO THIS’ when approached, but I think I lot of bakers either really need the money, are too embarrassed to admit they can’t do it, or think they’ll be able to just “wing it” once they start. Nope.

It's also a matter of the customer, sooooo many want these cgi instagram cakes but don't want to/don't have the money to pay for something so complex and 'artsy' then pressure the poor baker to do it of which most are done almost overnight to stop it spoiling, so they're not set properly (hence the slipping) and are just a guaranteed disaster.

The problem is most of the cakes are delivered directly to the wedding. So you would start crying in front of the whole guests and the delivery person (I would cry too)

Some of these arent really that bad and shouldve instead gone under the title "Most Creative Wedding Cakes". The poor groom's mom that tried to make one i mean you can't really fault her and it's better than paying money for a crappy cake when you know it's done out of love. But I'm glad now my wedding cake was smaller and simple (2 tier Teal and white ombre icing buttercream with an adorable wedding topper that honestly was the main thing but it tasted awesome). We had a bit of a flower fail that didnt match what we wanted/ordered but the day is about a bride and groom celebrating their love not cakes, flowers, and outfits
