The scissors with bird shaped handles are mostly used for sewing these days, but were originally for midwives to clamp the umbilical cords of babies, hence the stork shape. Look it up, there's a whole history on them. They aren't a new design, they're actually an old one.

Wish hospitals everywhere did something like that Last time I was in hospital, on my way up to the recovery floor, I kept trying to touch things. I had really bad motor control from a long medically-induced coma. The nurses kind of appreciated that I was trying to make at least one arm behave! Though I didn’t have the strength to push door-open buttons… that annoyed me the most. That I couldn’t even open a door!
