We have a wheaten too, they are just the best breed We got ours from a shelter when I was 4 years old and they told us that he wasn't a pure breed. But then we came across the Irish Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and found out that our dog shows the exact same personality and looks as a wheaten. Moritz (his name) is 14 now and still behaves like 7. He never haunted, not even cats, never bit me. He is my everything and I don't know what I would do without him. They are the best dogs you can wish for. (sorry for my bad English)

We lost our girl Sydney at the beginning of April. She was 15! She was a truly wonderful personality and friend, and I miss her dearly. She was my 13th birthday present, I had her for more than half of my life. The month following was nothing more than a blur, but I've had plenty of time for reflection. My conclusion: the happiness she brought in her life far outweighs the sadness of its end, and if the only way to get rid of one was to rid of the other, I would never do it, not ever. It still hurts when I think of our goodbye, but I try to focus on our time together, and those memories bring a smile to my face. And more and more it's those memories that come.

This is an adorable breed, but too high energy for a senior citizens like my hubby and me! I have a question for you lucky pet moms and dads: I heard Wheatons can have trouble digesting protein, which I found really surprising, since dogs tend to eat mostly protein, in general. If you have a protein sensible Wheaton, what in the world do you feed them? BTW: We will be getting a new pup in a week or so which is better suited to our energy level...a cavapoo/Cavoodle (mix between mini poodle and King Charles Cavalier Spaniel.) we lost our fur baby this past Dec., and we’re so heart broken. Can’t wait to hold a little fur baby in our arms again! Loved this video!

I am hoping that a lot of her behavior and energy will change as she gets older. Wish I could share a photo with you. Folks on here who have owned or currently owned one of these beautiful dogs... Question. I have been looking to get a dog for a long time as a first time owner. I've also done a lot of research, and this dog ticks a lot of the boxes for me. The only thing I'm concerned about is hearing they have very high energy. I'm a person with anxiety who is a little more laid-back and gets really anxious if I'm around dogs who are constantly bouncing around and not well-trained. What is your experience with them?
@mjeb33 жыл бұрын
They’re very smart dogs but you’ll probably want to get some professional advice on training because they can be very persistent lol. I wasn’t able to train my wheaten not to jump, I probably should have taken some lessons. They really have a lot of energy. Do you happen to have a fenced in yard or enjoy going for a run?
@fionamorel3 жыл бұрын
@@mjeb3 I do have a fenced in yard and am close to some great dog parks. And yes, I would love to go for a run and would take them out daily to exercise. I suppose I don't mind a little jumping as long as they don't constantly do it?
@mjeb33 жыл бұрын
@@fionamorel they do it for several minutes but it’s not every day and they get VERY excited and do it when you first get home. I have a fenced in yard and it’s the best for them because as soon as it starts (they’re referred to as zoomies LOL) you can let them out and they’ll run around the yard like crazy and get it out of their system. They’re such loving and sensitive dogs. Grooming is also a job though so either you’ll want to find a good groomer or learn how to groom them yourself.

I had a wheaten with my partner in Canada. Does anyone know if they can handle the Australian summers here? The breeders will tell me what I want hear.

Hey! From what I've learned and having a wheatie myself, they do best in mild climates. We live in the southern US, which can be very very hot, so during the summer we take her on walks very early or towards evening and make sure to have lots of water for her.
