I think their philosophy when it comes to snes and gba courses is actually purposely different. It seems to me like they want to keep the snes courses flat to make them seem like theyre from the first mario kart, while changing up the gba courses to help them reach their full potential since they were held back so much by the hardware they were on. I think the reason Mario Circuit 3 is flat like the Wii remake is because it IS the Wii remake, ported and touched upon a bit for Tour and then brought over from Tour to the Booster Pass. I also don't mind it being more flat. It actually would make the SNES tracks more distinct from the rest (especially Super Circuit).

The main thing I like about wave 2 is that there are so many shortcuts. MKWii was famous for having very well placed shortcuts that were very difficult and all had an element of risk--TF lake jump, MG gap, DKS single & double, GV lava respawn & rock hop, DSDS Dock shortcuts, BC3 shroom & ultra, DKM turnskip, rBC rail cut, etc... Wave 2 has tons of these interesting high-risk high-reward tracks that make for hype races and memorable finishes. In addition to them, to my surprise, keeping the MG gap jump a difficult but highly rewarding shortcut, there are major skips such as the one between the snowman & tree at the beginning of GBA Snow Land, or the one at the end of Sky-High Sundae where you skip half of the U-turn. TWD98 made a video on the Wave 2 shortcuts if you don't know what I'm talking about. But regardless of whether it was intentional or not, the tracks are becoming closer to what MKWii's track philosophy was, which I personally love. This wave alone has changed the amount of major unintended shortcuts from being just the 1 in big blue to being 3 or 4. And that's hype.

Sky-High Sundae being called a new track is definitely controversial especially since it just got revealed for Tour, and I do think the track was originally developed with Tour in mind. Some parts of the anti-gravity in the track do feel very minimal and strange, especially with the railing acting as boosters, adding to more proof that it is just a Tour track with anti-gravity added to it. I think it was called new for marketing purposes and because, at the time of the Wave 2 trailer, it hadn't been revealed for Tour yet and they didn't want to spoil it for Tour players. Turnip Cup: New York Minute: A little too boxed in, like Tokyo Blur, but it's fun how distinct each lap is, and that the track is set at night. Mario Circuit 3: A chaotic little track online but nothing much to this track. Easily the blandest design and aesthetics in Wave 2. Kalimari Desert: I love that Nintendo combined the original N64 layout with Kalimari Desert 2 from Tour. The music remix is absolutely wonderful. My second favorite N64 track in the entire game after Rainbow Road. Waluigi Pinball: I love that we finally have this track in HD. Absolutely stunning, and having those classic item sound effects return is the cherry on top. Propeller Cup: Sydney Sprint: Easily the best Tour city track so far. I love how long this track is. It is so satisfying to trick off all the ramps with boost panels on them, and driving through the park and opera house feels great. Snow Land: The penguin rink is absolutely adorable. I absolutely love the remixed music as well. The layout is a little basic, but the little ramp at the way end of each lap adds some much needed last second chaos. Mushroom Gorge: I'm glad the mushroom shortcut at the start of each lap was added back as well as the gap skip at the end of each lap, like in Wii, while retaining the blue propeller mushroom from 7. Best version of this track by far. Sky-High Sundae: The colorful graphics and being fully in anti-gravity don't really make up for the bland layout. This is one of the weaker tracks in Wave 2. Sweet Sweet Canyon did a similar dessert theme better. Overall, I absolutely love this DLC Wave. It's so much better than Wave 1 with more consistency in terms of fun, creativity, and graphics.

A lot of people seem to think Sky High Sundae is a new track, but it's not. It's from Tour, due to be released in future. For whatever reason this and Ninja Hideaway are missing the Tour label, and they're the last tracks in each wave. Anyway, all of the courses are ported from Tour, classic and new. There's nothing new being developed here, which is why the courses are all short and have low texture quality.
@PhantasticMrPhrog2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think people think that, but also it technically is a new track and regardless of what game you play it in. It will forever objectively be a new MK8 track first. It may have been designed for tour with a simplistic design. It was still designed somewhat for 8 due to the anti gravity added in. So regardless it is indeed an 8DX track first and foremost.
@PlatinumAltaria2 жыл бұрын

@@PlatinumAltaria Yes I know but it was still added. Regardless if the track was designed for tour, the public will always know it as the track that first came to MK8. A long comment on why Mario Circuit 3 is the best track: There are 2 types of people. Those who hate mario circuit 3 and those who love mario circuit 3. I am one of the people who love mario circuit 3. Mario circuit 3 is the peak of mario kart retro tracks and might be the better than all new tracks in mario kart 8. The shortcuts are exillerating and ill never get over how clever it was to have a little opening between two lego like boxes. The backgrounds are amazing with natural hills that look very exciting and fun and i wish i could go to the hills in mario kart 8s mario circuit 3. It copies the design of its amazing brothers, mario circuit 1 and 2. The small dash block is a huge improvment and missing it is always a let down and its a huge risk on if i should go for it. I love mario circuit 3’s asthetics. The blocky look mixed in with nature is so amusing and i smile each time i see it. Those who dont like mario circuit 3 are weak minded beta males while those who love it are strong minded alpha males who can appreciate good track design and gorgeous looking mario kart tracks. Mario circuit 3 truly is the definitive mario kart track.

Regarding Mario Circuit 3, I commented this on another channel, but I feel like it's the worst SNES Mario Circuit Nintendo could have brought back. Mario Circuit 1 is the first track in the franchise, so it has that massive historical factor going for it; Mario Circuit 2 has that great glide ramp at the end of laps, which debuted in Mario Kart 7; Mario Circuit 4 has never been remade before. Mario Circuit 3 doesn't have much going for it in comparison.

My point exactly.

That is exactly what I thought.
@AndrewFanton2 жыл бұрын
I originally felt the same way when I saw it in Mariokart Wii, but I've since changed my mind. The layout for MC3 has lots of frequent tight turns that even MC4 can't match. It really helps sell the feeling of classic Mariokart where proper timing of turns was essential.

In Sydney sprint the slant is not intended to be off-road, also they kept Mario circuit exactly the same for nostalgia since it’s so iconic
@JohnTheLadWasTaken2 жыл бұрын
These tracks are sooooo much better than the 1st wave but I think that waluigi pinball is missing something i dont know how to explain it but it's still a great track and Sydney sprint is a very good track and probably my favorite because it's quite relaxed and just aesthetically great
@shadowcastyt2 жыл бұрын
For Waluigi pinball probably a case of nostalgia and it's simply not as good as you remember (I'm in the same boat about it as well)
@powerguy39762 жыл бұрын
Haven’t played the original but I think some of the custom sound effects are missing.
@FrazerEddy9 ай бұрын
I think the fact is they didn't include the game over sounds when you leave the pinball area. I mean, they included those in the opening cutscene, but not in the race itself.

I like how the base game retro tracks were altered so that the actual track had little bumps and the turns were raised a bit, that alone would have made Mario circuit 3 better

I hope we get Bowser's castle n64 in either the next wave or the last wave. But I don't think that Nintendo has plans for bc64 unfortunately.
@FrazerEddy9 ай бұрын
N64 Bowser's Castle is great, but I personally would've preferred something like Wii or DS. Or heck, even GCN or one of the GBA tracks would be nice.

Don't understand why MC3 was chosen when SNES MC2 literally has a glider ramp in mk7. It should be here
@crispycol49042 жыл бұрын
Waluigi Pinball would place for me in A, purely because it was the perfect track to add anti-gravity. I know they're mostly just porting from Tour but especially with the graphics being drastically different from the base game, I expect a little bit of effort into making them feel more like MK8 tracks instead of MKT tracks.

One thing I really like about Mushroom Gorge is that at least in 200cc (idk if it can be done in lower speeds but I haven't tested it out) you can do the first shortcut without using a mushroom. If you time it right, you can hop over the grass so you don't slow down and can make it far enough to land on the mushroom. Also, one of my favorite things to do when I make the gap jump is try to hop the fence. It's really risky but can save a huge amount of time, and it feels really satisfying when you make it.

Honestly, Mario Circuit 3 would've been cooler if they made it look like you were in an arcade game or something instead of just re-re-making the same track. If you're gonna do something again, at least do it better. Also, I try to trick off the boost panel in Waluigi Pinball thinking its a ramp too.
@GTRichardson72 жыл бұрын
to answer your question on why someone would go under the ramps on Sky-High Sunday, the columns that hold the ramps up actually are boosts like the rails earlier, so it might be faster (i haven't tested it yet, but one could imagine it cutting a little bit of time)

14:52 “unfortunately Mario circuit 3 sus”
@llmkursk82542 жыл бұрын
It’s funny, but Kalimari Desert and Mushroom Gorge are actually ported from the 3DS, as 7 added the glider ramps to Kalimari Desert and the blue mushroom used to replace the left path in Mushroom Gorge. It is, however, nice to see the tracks improved upon with extra touch-ups. I will say, it is a disappointment that Waluigi Pinball doesn’t have anti-gravity in the slope section.
@____David2 жыл бұрын
Great Video! If I'm being honest it sort of feels like the development time for Mario Circuit 3 was used to update the older tracks while they just port over MC3 from Wii which I guess makes sense (I do still wish it had better visual similar to all of the other tracks in wave 2 though)

On the topic of mario circuit 3, not every track has to be extravagant. Sometimes just playing on a simple circuit is a good thing. It leads to simple races and a break in the the vibrant colours and crazy turns that make the other courses all the better
@mimikyutubesaltaccount4875 Жыл бұрын
I can understand that, but the problem is that they chose Mario Circuit 3 over Mario Circuit 4, which is the only SNES Mario Circuit that hasn’t been remade outside of Super Circuit
