What I Want From EVERY Mario Game For Super Mario Maker 3

Super Mario Maker 2 has been out for nearly three years now so I think it’s about time I remake an old video I did listing out one item I wanted from every mainline mario game for mario maker 2, though this time I’ll do it for mario maker 3! The Mario games I’ll be covering include Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, New Super Mario Bros DS, Wii, 2, & U, 3D Land, 3D World, And Super Mario Odyssey. My wishes for each of these games range from new power-ups, bosses, level themes, game styles, and many more. So anyways, join me as I list one thing I want from every single mainline mario title, for super mario maker 3!

something i really wish they had is lift spawners so that levels like smb1 1-2 could be made more faithfully. It will default to spitting lifts in a specified direction, and can be added to tracks to rail on the lifts that spawn from them

The mini mushroom would be awesome! That's one of my favorite power ups! You can walk on water and up walls! Plus, you can bounce on enemies! Like, there's so much creative potential here!

5:03 Personally, I think that if, behind the scenes, Nintendo really did HAVE to chose *either* the Frog Suit or Hammer Suit, they chose the right power-up. Now, I wouldn't say I prefer the Frog Suit over the Hammer Suit, but I think it's a bit tunnel-visioned to think it doesn't deserve a spot at *all,* perhaps. The Frog Suit's land traversal IS certainly annoying to use, unless holding an item, but it's a radical change to Mario's moveset and mechanics, ESPECIALLY underwater; which was a style of gameplay that wasn't very fun before the Frog Suit's addition. If anything, the Frog Suit/something equivalent (like the Penguin Suit from NSMB) should be in ALL styles so that fun underwater controls aren't locked to just SMB3, in my opinion. I don't think the Hammer Suit would've shaken up the gameplay or mechanics anywhere NEAR as much as the Frog Suit, at least not without reworking some of it's mechanics. I personally like both powerups, and think they would both make good additions, but I do think the frog suit won fair and square, if we assume it has to be a competition. All that said, good vid!

Exactly this. The frog suit can make underwater levels feel amazing. And even on land, it can occasionally be a quirky change of pace (e.g. in jungle levels). I like the hammer suit in SMB3, but in mario maker wouldn't really have added much. It's basically just another fireflower-eque power up. Still would be nice to have, but the frog suit just adds so so much more.

i deff agree that the hammer suit from smb3 may not've shaken up the gameplay much, but it is actually unique in the sense it protects mario from fireballs(when crouching) and it is actually literally a stronger version of the fire flower(even if more inaccurate) since it defeats almost everything with its hammer bro hammers(even kills bowser faster) that the fire flower itself cannot w/its fireballs(boos, all bone enemies, especially mario bros 3 thwomps) but.. then again hammer suit from mario bros 3 is the one power up that has literally never been in another mario game for over 20 years, which i find pretty sad due to how cool and unique i and prob others thought it was, especially how powerful it is despite the hammers arc(the arc makes sense cuz mario literally becomes a hammer bro w/the suit).

The frog suit makes underwater levels actually bearable. And theres already several powerups that throw projectiles, but none that make you swim easily besides the frog suit. So yeah I prefer the frog suit over the hammer suit.

The shell power up from NSMBds makes you swim faster but the frogsuit lets you swim in four cardinal directions fast so you havr a good point. Also penguin suit too

I think having a full-on Bowser's Fury mode for 3D World that replaces the night mode in that style would be awesome, and maybe it could lead to some non-linear levels where the objective is to collect the Cat Shines instead of reaching the goal and other various gameplay elements from that expansion.

@@panwasacz2733 my guess would be removing flagpoles and time limits, replacing them with: smb1 - big stars (from 64) smb3 - shines (from Sunshine) smw - grand stars (from Galaxy) nsmbu - moons (from Odyssey) 3dw - cat shines (from Bowser's Fury) if they make more 3d styles, i say ditch the flagpoles in 3d styles in favor of these non-linear levels, using their game's respective collectible, and then just not having 2d non-linear levels

One thing I want to see for the third game is a broader selection of music. Maybe let Creators choose from three tracks per game style or something. The thing is, I find it quite hard to make unique levels with the standard theme. If i want to make a haunted forest level, the theme for the forest music is just way too happy for that. A Tree Tower as a Miniboss level for the super world would also need a more hostile tune. Mario is known for its great music, zo let us choose from this library in the next Maker Game. Also this Way, Games without Game style could be featured.

This! I don't know why this wasn't a thing to begin with, but all music should be open to all game styles and you can mix and match them how you please. I shouldn't have to pick a specific game style and specific level type to use music I want for a level. Not to mention the sound options aren't too great, also I would like to use some without the animation, example is, I like the pig sound, but I don't want the pig to pop up, I should have the option of sound only or with animation

I'd like to see level themes be changed so we can mix and match the background, block pallets, and special features like water or lava or wind. This would give so much more customizability to levels without even adding anything new.

I feel like the hammer suit wasn't chosen over the frog suit simply because it would cause too many issues with off screen set ups. Remember it can damage everything(including Thwamps) and goes through walls and more importantly the ceiling/floor. So just imagine how many levels that rely on off screen mechanisms would soft lock from the hammer suit and how hard it would be to build around.

15:16 I can definitely see where you are coming from and I kinda agree! The Ice Flower has only 1 power and that could be used for puzzle levels. But since the Penguin suit has 3 powers, like the Link Sword, it could be used for a level to showcase the powers and use them all in interesting ways. I‘m curious what Nintendo plans to do with 2D Marios in the future. Releasing a regular Mario game, even if there is some innovation on the level of one or two new power-ups, would feel redundant after the Mario Maker games so I feel like they would need something big if they want to continue the series at all.

The ability to replay levels is a must, which I guess is implied if you have secret exits. Also, running out of lives should actually, you know... matter. Allowing for navigation between individual worlds would also be nice. I want power ups to carry over between levels, but that gets into a separate list of wants I have, regarding different types of levels.

Main reason I want the Penguin suit over the ice flower is it would kill 2 birds with one stone. You get the ice flower and better swimming wrapped into one powerup. Because I really wish there was a frogsuit-like powerup in every style to make water level more bearable.

10:37 FLUDD Powerup. There was a flash game that was a 2d recreation of one of 3d Mario games and it had a FLUDD powerup, so it could work well with 2d. Basically, imagine Mario having a jetpack that can also kill enemies. It would refill when going into water or collecting the new FLUDD powerup, so it would be great for levels that are partially submerged, like we can do in SMM1.

I would also include the blue hexagonal invisible blocks from 3d world and bowser's fury where the creator in the editor can see the platform exactly but the player in-game can't see it until they step on it. (Also fixing the 3d beep blocks exactly to the beat of the music and/or adding them to the other game styles, or potentially add the rhythm stage from 3d land or 3d world. Won't that be fun?)

I feel like a great implementation for Mario galaxy is the game as a whole. Similar to what they did for 3-D world, I feel like it would be an amazing game mode to play. It could look something like at the 12:50 minute mark on your video.

The hate for the frog suit tells me you don't play much Mario Maker. SMB3 is probably the least popular gamestyle because there''s so little to make it stand out compared to the others. Frog suit provided *exactly* that: a more dynamic way to play water levels. It was a great addition. Being able to throw hammers around doesn't elevate gameplay nearly as much.

Something I’ve always wanted was a Super Paper Mario game style. This way, you wouldn’t rely on power ups as health and you would actually have an HP system. You could also use you hammer, which I think that alone is enough to make this style distinct.

I think they should add a gimic where if the clown car touches water it does an epic transformation into a submarine. Not just if you place it in water. Edit: or maybe you just hold down on it and choose transform, clown car, or clown sub.

There should be a variation for the Themes. Ex: NSMBU Castle theme rn is kinda ugly imo, so a variation can be the gray brick, bluish or the green-ish variation. Also being able to add elements with having to be night mode, like wind. And one million more things 🤩

For the 3D Mario Games addition of possible tools/assets, I found a fan made flash game (actually really good with its own level editor) incorporated a lot of the items fairly well and was overall pretty fun to play. It was called Super Mario 63 (2D "loose" replicated version of Mario 64 with additional of Mario sunshine and Mario galaxy tools).

Gravity changing might very well be on its way. The 2D sections of Odyssey sometimes have it. Secret exits could lead to one of those smb3 minigame houses, allowing for even more 1-ups to be collected.

For SMB1 and Lost Levels, I’d definitely like to see the platform that acts like a single scale platform, sinking when you stand on it and stopping when you jump off, and the Poison Mushroom (not the rotten mushroom). Also, from SMB3, I really want to see Grab Blocks, especially since SMB1 is technically the only one that didn’t have anything of that sort, (Okay, NSMBU didn’t technically have anything like that, but it had the light blocks, which act basically the same)

star coins are honestly so integral to traditional level design feeling good that im really surprised they still don't have them lmao. the Penguin Suit is honestly just such a cool power up that I really wanna see in a mario maker game lol, it improves your swimming controls, provides a faster movement option, lets you stop slipping on ice, has all the benefits of the ice flower, and most importantly looks *adorable*. the only noticeable negative to it's inclusion would be if it came at the *cost* of the ice flower not being put in the game, but frankly? i kinda doubt they'd ever do that? the ice flower is literally just the penguin suit but with less features lol, it's not like adding the ice flower while you have the penguin suit would add much dev time. the question is more in reverse, is it worth adding when you just have the ice flower made? and even then my answer is still yes, because fast movement at 1 tile high that can also break through gaps and has you mostly immune to damage while performing it? it's basically just a functional remake of the blue shell but with more interesting elements added rather than *just* having a limited movement mode that's hard to control. (also the fact that the penguin suit's sliding is an active input you have to make by pressing down while running, whereas the blue shell just automatically does it after you've ran to full speed for a bit lol) that said, i simply *cannot* agree about mini-mushrooms as they simply add *so many* interesting physics changes without you having to be locked to night theme on very specific stages to get similar things from, while also allowing you to use them to give players access to optional difficulty runs of the same level. mini-mushrooms are honestly just super fun and cool and especially if they come with the mini-mushroom mini-blocks that only a mini mario can run under, that'd be so cool (especially in tandem with star coins or extra lives which you could hide behind the mini's alternate path)

For a more interesting nsmb2 addition, you could add the really unique backgrounds nsmb2 levels have. Alternate backgrounds in general would be pretty rad

I have an idea for how to implement both the ice flower *and* the penguin suit. You could change the ice flower into the penguin suit, just like how you can do that with a few enemies, blocks, semi-solids, and power-ups. Easiest thing to do, really.

I'd also like to see a tower theme. These are very different then castle theme or volcano theme, because theyre more green and don't have lava. This'd be cool to see in addition to beach, volcano, and mountain themes.

My two favorite things I would like to see in Mario maker 2 or even maybe 3 is the waddlewing and the Monty tank. Both of them are very unique, the waddlewing has the gliding ability and can cling on to walls, also they are very cute. And the Monty tank would be a super fun boss to battle. The mountain theme would be amazing to have also just because Monty moles and waddlewings fit in the most there.

I like the frog suit more than the hammer suit, but that’s because I’m a weirdo who likes water levels. I also would love to hear your thoughts on Super Mario Land 2 at some point in the future because it’s one of my favorite Mario games because I love how unique it is Edit: I also love the mini mushroom. I would love to see those big movable blocks (the ones in the towers for example) to be added to the game. These big blocks can add some cool platforming challanges to Mario Maker we haven't seen before.

My most wanted features include: Being able to exit levels, and save your progress at checkpoints. People grind levels now and it would be nice to take a break from a hard level you’ve reached a checkpoint at, and come back to it later Allow us to throw shells up in all game styles you can hold a shell. I have no idea why Nintendo dropped it after SMW. Allow multiple game styles per level. Go in a pipe in SMW, come out in SMB3. Would be pretty awesome. Color pallets for the characters. If we can’t have special mushrooms anymore, let us change the colors. Yellow Mario, purple toad, pink Luigi…etc
