Ranking All The Bosses In Super Mario Maker 2!

Super Mario Maker 2 recently released it's final major update 3.0.0. With that new update came seven new bosses in the forms of the koopalings, Larry, Lemmy, Iggy, Roy, Wendy, Morton, and Ludwig. With these new bosses in super mario maker 2 bringing the total boss count from 15 to 43 I decided to rank them all for you today! For this list I decide which of the bosses mechanics would work best in the most scenarios in smm2. So join me as I rank all the bosses in Super Mario Maker 2!

Bowser is intended to “load in” earlier. This way, you can have the player go down a hallway leading to him while dodging fireballs, much like in his appearances in full previous Mario games.

Not too many players know this but you can negate bowser's fireball spam completely by simply building the boss room in the beginning of the level if the creator has the player spawn behind bowser he won't shoot fireballs since bowser himself cannot turn around

Just thought it was worth mentioning, putting wings on bosses other than Meowser gives them some unique mechanics as well. For example, on Morton he fakes you out before doing his ground pound, and Ludwig starts flying above you instead of flutter jumping. I’m sure you can create some unique boss fights out of those as well.

I found a good setup for a lot of the Koopalings. I’m going to talk about Wendy and Lemmy, but I made a boss rush level that incorporates my ideas here: FJW-JGX-2WG. It’s hard, so if you’re up to the challenge please give it your all. There is a viable strategy to pass every boss. First of all, both require a small, or at the very least medium sized rooms so their abilities are a challenge. For Lemmy, the room needs to be smaller (low roof as well) and the edges of the platform need to have an opening to fall in lava. I put spikes on the outer walls to prohibit wall jumping, but that’s up to you. This requires the player to actually avoid the balls so they don’t get pushed into the lava. For Wendy, I used a medium sized room that lets her rings actually move more efficiently in a way to prohibit movement to the player. Wendy herself is actually very agile and athletic, making her hard to hit. So, I thought springs may be a viable option to go with her. This allows her to become harder to hit, as well as giving the player the disadvantage as if they were actually invading enemy territory. When in her shell, the springs make her harder to avoid as she’ll be bouncing in a lot of places on the map, and with the springs and rings still in the arena it’ll make it harder to avoid. There are safe spots and certain cues you can find to help avoid her while she’s in her shell. The springs are very strategically placed for this reason.

I tried to recreate Larry’s SMW fight. It was chaos. I had a huge seesaw that would sometimes make me get hit by the Lava Bubbles and Larry himself. The jumping shell attack is nearly impossible to dodge. I even died after I beat the boss due to being hit by the bubbles or falling into lava while trying to align the seesaw with the locked door.

You've got to consider that in the New Soup series in general, Ludwig has been the seventh Koopaling you fight, and therefore the last one. It makes sense that he's tougher. Also, I have an Iggy bias, but you don't give him much credit. Again, with wings, he moves very well, and his magic bolts and shell spin in New Soup U game Style are faster than any other Koopaling ever.

You can VERY easily stop Roy from digging. 1 Add Sideways Trampolines as the floor or 2 place him on a Muncher. Also, my favorite boss in Super Mario Maker 2 is Meowser. He is either used for A, following you for the entire level or B, only being in a sub-area so you could make the Sub-area a vertical section where you run from Meowser to defeat him at the end and I am a huge fan of a level within a level type of boss fight.

2:17 I tested this out, I think it's because he can't find room to land. If you hoard all the space he stays back there, but if you give him ground room he'll come back sooner. Also I wished for SMW Wendy to be able to go through pipes with decoys like she did in the original, I thought it'd be cool.

Imagine if all of the Bosses from SMB2 were put in SMM2. All the Creative Ideas you can make with Birdo, Mouser, Wart and the rest. Imagine if also the SM64 Mechanics and Bosses were somehow able to be installed. That would just take things to another Level. The Kooplings don't fight exactly as they do in SMW. Example being how the Bigger Guys walk on the Enclosing Walls, Wendy and another comes out of pipes, with Flames bouncing around, and fake variations popping out to confuse the Player, and Guys like Iggy on a Tilting Platform shooting bouncing fire balls at you one at a time. Also, many enemies and even some power up's did not make it from various games in the franchise. My favorite being the hammer suit, and what about the tanooki suit? So there was so much potential for much more to have happened. The possibilities would had been endless. Imagine if you could had played as any of the enemies, including the bosses? Online, multiplayer. Multiple people can choose to play as bosses against multiple Mario character players. Have a good old fashioned good vs evil gameplay. Or even have the enemies fight against one another. Join forces with good. Or Mario could use there Wands and gain there powers.

I made a decent Meowser ‘boss fight’ in my level ‘Hammer Smash Castle’ by having it so you just have to lure a bully towards an on-off switch while avoiding Meowser’s attacks (not actually fighting him)

I had dreams about the Koopalings being in Mario Maker 1. And I remember that in those dreams Iggy, Lemmy, and Larry look the exact same in the real games than in the real game, with the weird mouth that Bowser Jr. Also had. It was Awesome when I first saw it

Personally, I think all the bosses outside of 3D world can be used in different ways. In a super paper Mario boss bash I made, I used Large boom boom and large Morton for O'Chunks (boom boom for the earlier fights, Morton and winged Morton for the later ones), Winged boom boom for spider Mimi and winged bowser junior for regular Mimi, winged Ludwig for Dimentio, Winged Larry for mr. L, Bowser and winged Bowser for the two bowser fights (you beat him with bombs like in the game, no fire flower spam), Giant Roy for Francis and Giant winged Roy for the Optional Francis Rematch, Giant Larry in a clown car for Brobot, Lemmy on top of a contraption for King Croacus (phase one) and Winged Lemmy in a clown car with Giant Wendy's on the side of the arena for phase two, Giant Larry inside a special contraption for Brobot L-type, Giant Winged Iggy in Clown Car with a bill blaster on his head for count Bleck, Iggy, Larry, and Ludwig in a tower with munchers for super Dimentio, Giant Iggy with spike top on his head for End Boss (Sammer Guy), Larry, Bowser, Wendy, and Bowser junior for Shadoo. Frack tail, Wracktail, Blooper, Underchomp and Bonechill are all special contraptions.
