Just finished a Funwheel build that started quite a while back. When everything was 3D printed and they didn't sell a Vesc. I have a lot more money into my build due to Fungineers evolving. I bought the first gen rails, the PCB battery board, the 3D printed boxes, the original Stompies, etc. ......... didn't use any of it. That being said, I rode my Funwheel for the first time today, and wow. I watched the above video on .75 speed for the config settings cause Jaden talks so fast. It's set up right, it looks bad ass, and it performs even better. It was worth the wait.

Well, have mine all set up and today took the first test Float. Wow, all I can say is wow. This board is a beast, rock solid, rides a treat, pulls like a Mountain Goat. I’m in love ❤. The power is just amazing, pulls me up hills I never could manage before. 😊🤙

I have the funwheel x7 for a while now, about a month. Its absolutely amazing! Had the xr for a year and a half, but its has its limitations for sure. I was thinking about upgrading it, but then I had to at least buy a new controller and battery, which already sets me back a thousand and then still not close to a funwheel. I figured selling the XR for a thousand and then just buy the funwheel for 2 thousand, I also get a better motor and rails. Best decision I made, my god, what a beast. Its fast, easily reached 25 mph even went 28 today. Also going up hills, no problem anymore! Im a noob with Vesc, so setting it up was some effort and did some things wrong, but the customer service is topnotch. Had some issues with the sensorpad, and Mo send me a new one without me even asking for it.

A couple things I encountered when setting up the board: - In the settings of thor with my board, it was set to turn off after 5 minutes, so it turned off during the update. It freaked me out and thought I bricked the thing, cause I couldnt connect anymore. After the update you cant connect with bluetooth, you have to connect with wifi and then turn on bluetooth again. My phone didnt want to connect to the wifi so I thought I bricked the vesc thing. Fortunately another phone did connect to the wifi, so thats how I managed. - I will call them the cooling blocks attached to the wheel, not sure of the exact name. There are bolts in there. They were not tightened and I didnt notice, just blindly following the instructions from this video. This caused a clicking/rattling sound while going back and forth and riding over bumps. This is because of the loose bolts in the blocks. not to confuse with the bolts you use to attached the wheel. I found out by asking Mo from fungineers and he told me to check the bolts in the blocks. Now it rides really smooth. - When I installed the refloat package, my lights stopped working. Took me a while to find out I can turn them on in refloat, just not under LEDS but under Specs in Refloat Cfg. I think thats it, maybe it helps some other selfassemble/vesc noob 😆

If you take that list of time stamps and put it in the description, but start it with "00:00 - Intro" then KZbin will chop up the progress bar into chapter markers that will be clickable, and have the chapter names visible if you mouse hover over them in the progress bar. Generally helps with engagement / watch time metrics, and is also helpful to viewers.

It’s hilarious how every single VESC onewheel setup video has something go wrong and the technician not notice it. Case in point your IMU detection. Definitely lots of room for improvement in the setup process for the software. Great video, loved it! Stoked to see some of these out in the wild.

I’m really struggling with my next purchase. Should I buy/build an X7? Or a GTS? I ride a little trail, lots of street cruising, but I’m a bigger guy. 215-220lbs. My GT has been great (I love the size) but I want just a bit more torque and power. I REALLY love my XR, but I just don’t feel as confident on it in the trails as I do my GT. Decisions decisions!

Hello! Odd question, but where can I find the stl files for the fender deletes shown in the video?
Should I also use loctite 243 on the bolts that connect the rails to the hub? I bought the stock xr rails and had them custom made by CNC. From watching the funwheel build videos, it looks like they don't use loctite 243 on the bolts that connect the rails to the hub.

So I've been following this for a bit and I can't really see why this is better or more affordable that the already existing one wheel. For starters the battery is a 20s2p 84v, a total of 40 cells and bms for $600. Last year I made a 12s5p battery with a smart bms for an electric mountain board for €400 including the cost of the welder (shout out kweld) so that just seems grossly overpriced for what you get. The battery box has no business being $120, its a box. Smart BMSs range from €50-€150 so $91 isn't the worst but a far cry from the best. $320 for a vesc is ridiculous. With no specs listed for their Thor300 it seems hard to justify why it costs so much when FocBox and Spintend do high power VESCS for €145-€300 $460 for the motor is a hard sell, sure it can go faster than some alternatives (again, spintend has a similar product for $149 and that's not even touching on the second hand market for one wheel parts) but realistically no one will use it at the listed 60km/h. It's not like 60 in a car, instability and user error at those speeds unprotected is lethal. The charger is actually really reasonably priced. Most are around $200 and the ones below that I'd have a hard time trusting, so credit where credit is due. The connectors and wire harnesses are way too much, about €40 for cable, connectors, switches and solder and you have the same thing they do. The CNC casings I can't really say much about. I have 0 experience with that and all the enclosures and casings I've made have been fiberglass and polyester resin. The total cost of the kit comes to $2,146.61 not including shipping while the OneWheel GT goes for $2900 so I'm struggling to see the market for this. If I have $2,146.61 to spend on recreation then I probably have $2900 as well, I'm not going to draw the line at an additional $754 so it's not made for people who can't afford a onewheel. The constituent parts are far more expensive here than if you just shop around so it's not for the DIY crowd and while it might outperform the OneWheel GT, you still have to assemble the kit yourself, so the casual commuter is out as well. I'm not saying it's not an impressive machine because by all accounts it's great, I just don't understand why it exists.

Thanks for the detailed comment and it surely helps people to have another perspective. Why does Funwheel exist? Well the short answer is, we just make the best stuff on the leading edge of tech and performance we think we can produce for the best price to you guys. If people like it, and think its worth their while and $ then good :) Thats the short answer, the long answer is: Battery $600 battery, with grade A Molicel P28 cells in a 20S2P config with a smart BMS, an Injection molded box complete with wire harness, RGB LED, waterproofed with a pressure vent, that took us a lot of research and iterations to get here. To get something with similar specs and quality, it would be at least a $1000 on the market elsewhere. VESC Our Thor300 is not $320, but $269, and if someone is comparing it to Spintend then they should get a spintend, because this is by no means a budget build. A budget build can surely be built with lower priced components. Thor's capabilities are listed in the video and on our website. Cable and Connectors Actually if you get the whole kit you wont have to buy any conenctors or cables. So thats $0 actually. GT comparisons: GT has lower torque, speed, perhaps 10% more range than this board. Most importantly, we've squeezed all this tech in an XR platform which is unparalleled in ride feel. The GT ride feel is honestly sh!t and cannot be compared to our/ XR ride feel. We think this board surpasses the GTS in power, speed and torque, while being the same size as the XR, with top-quality components at a fair price. We can probably get the price lower and make it ride-able out of the box, by selling pre-assembled boards ;)
