One thing that should be noted is that the 333Mhz clock speed was already unlocked by Sony official firmware a few years after the release of the console, and some games were actually designed with this clock speed as a requirement; so some of the later games won't show any improvements because they were already pushing the chip to the max.

@nevadaxelizabethАй бұрын
this was one of the main misconceptions about the PSP. 333Mhz was not overclocking, it was simply the highest clock speed the CPU had available. Sony selected 222Mhz as a sweet spot for performance and battery life, and was the default speed of the XMB and most games. only a few of the last games like Birth by Sleep started to run on 333mhz by default. the ease of how the CPU could adjust its clock frequency was one of the things i liked the most, there was a MP3 Player called LightMP3 that allowed you to set the freq to 20mhz and used the dedicated media decoder of the console to play mp3, it could stretch to almost 12 hours of music when the battery only lasted 3 on the default freq.

I disagree. Opening/closing the UMD drive isn't satisfying at all imho and they're super slow. Loading games from the memory card at least doubles loading speeds and increases battery life on top. Also it's not the first/only optical disk in a handheld, not even the first from Sony.

I brought it everywhere. One of my favorite games of all time was on it. It was Tearaway. It is so nostolgic to me. I had borderlands 2 on it and brought it to my sisters basketball game when a little kid (younger than i was at the time, which was like 8) just straight up took it from my hands and started to play. I asked his mom for my vita back and she said "he's using it right now" i was too dumbfounded to get it back until the end of the game. I got it back. As a long time PSP and Vita modder, I would just like to say that it is not "overclocking", it is "max clocking" - within the hardware profiles Sony designed for the PSP hardware from the get go, but encouraged developers to leave alone whenever possible to maximize battery life and keep its portable gaming design. The slight exception to this is the 500mhz unlocked profile Vita hackers found late in the game above the original 444Mhz max clock - still within the original silicon spec, but not a developer accessible performance profile. The performance profiles available to developers was increased over time; Ready At Dawn famously had asked Sony to unlock the max clock 333Mhz mode for them during God of War COO's development.

Here is one thing about 3d printing that's rarely mentioned: All filaments shrink during cooldown some more some less depending on which filament you use so take it in consideration while you take measurements before you 3d print if you don't want to many missprints or parts that don't fit.
@SaHaRaSquadАй бұрын
Maybe it's rarely mentioned because it's rarely relevant at all? I never took it into consideration and the only deviations I noticed were tolerances depending on layer thickness. If you want a perfect fit you need at least one simplified test print either way.
@raughboy188Ай бұрын
@SaHaRaSquad it should be relevant, materials when they're hot tend to spread and while they're colling down they shrink, that's something you learn in physics. I agree you need to make at least one test print but knowing how much will filament shrink after cooling down can help you sqve filament and reduce number of missprints.

@Nukle0nАй бұрын
If you have your filaments tuned right they come out to the size you want every time without having to process this every time. Also most filaments do not really change size, silk PLA is one but it's easily overcome, if your parts don't fit you likely have your flow rate set too high. Also don't set esteps to get perfect extrusion, set your esteps so that when you extrude 100mm you actually extrude 100m, then tune filaments individually.

The best PSP is an emulation handheld or console in 2024 if we are going to be totally honest. Applaud the effort though as it looks like a love letter to keep the format alive.

Hey Zack! Quick 3D printing tip! When printing translucent PETG, print as slow as possible (30 mm/s or even slower) and use as few walls as possible, and no infill. That'll give you literally crystal clear print! P.S. fantastic video!

I remember the PSP. It was a misguided attempt at "outclassing" Nintendo who already had a firm grip on the market. Putting a disc drive in a portable was not smart. Just why do you insist on pronouncing "buttons" as "budins"?

The PSP Vito killed the psp- they did the same mistake that Nintendo did with the WiiU
@BerzerkerTankАй бұрын
5:05 You *were* able to boot games off of a PSP's internal storage, though. Back before it was shut down, you were able to buy full games off of the PSP's store-front, and they would be downloaded and saved to the internal storage of the system, which you could then boot from. Nowadays, though, yeah you don't have many options outside of hacking.

Good timing, it was just leaked a couple of days ago, that due to the apparent success of the "PlayStation Portal" (Sony's Cloud Gaming PS5 related device) that they're now working on a new Portable Console for the coming years. As a lifelong PSP and Vita Fan, this is amazing news to me! Cheers.

This reminds me of the good old AcidMods forum (that is still around) and the wild things people were doing and adding to PSP even when they were new. I almost wondered if you were going to do the internal camera mod that was extremely popular back in the day. Also a wave of nostalgia when you mentioned the battery PCB since that was integral to hacking the PSP in the old days, the Pandora/Tool battery and Magic Memory Stick combo. I remember I had a battery that could be hard modded by lifting a specific pin from one of the chips, good times, Lol.

I love this series of making stuff modern. But that was hella brave at 7:07 when you cut the positive and negative at the same time with metal snips. Dodged a pretty good short circuit there if the battery had enough charge in it. That was a close one haha

If you need to print transparent details, refer to the video on CNC Kitchen "Printing glass". It is more about the settings, than material. Since the Bambus are capable of it, it might be interesting to try with clear policarbonate, as it is as transparent as it gets

I always love to see the love the PSP gets, it's my all time favorite console ever. So awesome to see it's still relevant ! But, I can't stop thinking that this is kind of a missed opportunity for the Ultimate modern PSP, and I mean this in the most respectful and polite way possible! I only aim at constructive criticism! Personally, things I would do different : Bluetooth audio support ( so easy to implement) A second joystick, mapped to the Dpad would fix what Sony should have given us since day 1 A Psvita joystick cap on the analog for improved ergonomics Since you went the extra step to swap the shell, I could go for the monster hunter portable 3rd shell, with dat added A S S for better grip, AND a bigger battery! Personally, I wouldn't sacrifice the UMD, it's obsolete I know but at the same time, that's sooo Steampunk! So charmingly impractical and really carries the PlayStation DNA, as Sony never used cartridges except for the Psvita! There's a guy here on KZbin can't remember the channel, japanese, I believe it's Dr K something who added the wireless coil without removing the UMD! There you go, again being as wholesome as possible with these remarks ! Cheers dude
