Great showing once again guys. Thanks! I thought the whole iron/steel thing was hilarious and was curious to know the split. On re-watch, Nikki referred to "steel" first at 9:33, then Aaron at 12:40, 20:35, 26:55, and followed by Lincoln at 28:44. After this point it seemed everyone was using steel as the resource name with Dave too for his first time at 35:29. At 44:49 there seemed to be an open discussion about it, with various 'corrections' occurring from then on followed by amounts of laughter. All in all, iron was said 107 times, steel 80 times, and it was corrected by the players 21 times. Just another reason why you guys are so great. Always trying your hardest to represent a game in its best light, even when it may not even matter. Love it! 👍

Great play through! Thanks. There is a “ For your convenience” section highlighted in the rules which is helpful to prevent double play on a card: “At the beginning of the Production Phase, it’s better to line up the cards in the order you wish to resolve them. When a card is resolved, slide it up a little ( or rotate it 90 degrees) to show it can’t be resolved again during this phase.”

Never been much for engine builders, but I liked the idea that Lincoln mentioned about not having to worry about a points value for the cards while bidding on them. @rikhavok3 жыл бұрын
Hey Guys! So I tried a way to play and watch you guys play at the same time. Sort of playing with you. Also helped me learn the game. I set up for a 4 player game. I picked a color. in this case, I chose red. So I substituted for Aaron. I deal out the cards for a 4 player game completely random. So not what you dealt. then when you play on the whatever space, I’d put your token there regardless of what the card is. When it was Aaron’s turn, I follow the rules for placement and make my choice instead of him. When you place, you get the space that you choose regardless of if I am there. But, I win the cards in a tie, which appears not to be good sometimes because sometimes you don’t want to win it as you want the consolation prize. Then at the end of the game, I compare my score to all 4 of yours. of course this wasn’t perfect, but far better than playing two players by myself to learn the game. Lincoln beat me by 1 point.

Catching up with the ones I missed, I happened on this one and the discussion at the end about is it better to just let a person win when they didn’t was really fascinating. Slightly off game topic, this is something I see as an issue in table top RPGs too. And it is not just about them cheating but also making mistakes and people reacting to that perceived injustice. Was great to see the many ways of thinking about it…. And In do love when the four of you are together like this - old times.

Cool and interesting game, I love engine building games like this. It was also great to see the Original Crew together again. After watching the end-game discussion where Dave was explaining his problem with his Token's, and when Nikki were talking about how she had used the Upgrade-Capitalist and Dave's Capitalist in previous games, it made me wonder how the game would have played out if her and Dave had exchanged Capitalists with Lincoln and Aaron before the game. As there were a few times Nikki could have chosen to upgraded a card but didn't, or where she could upgrade cards if she used a a production cards before the main base-card. Using the extra coal in the second round to upgrade the Oil-Card for example could have given her the incentive of using her number 2 Token to trade Iron for Oil in the 3 round, and then place her 4-token on the card Aaron got instead, that card would also have been great for her, and now she could gain 8 points for the Oil and possible 12 for the other card if she upgraded it. Nikki would also have beaten Aaron and ended up with 74 points if she had used the bottom Coal-Card to gain 2 extra Coal before upgrading. Using 1 of those extra Coal's to upgrade her other Coal-Card granting her 5 Coal's instead of 2, which she could have used in the last round to score 2 extra points. And it seemed like having more options for Dave actually ended up hurting him in the long run. Instead of having to think more strategic about placing his tokens to get the best resources, it became more about finding out how to place all 5 tokens on decent spaces. it would have been interesting to see how Lincoln and Aaron would have dealt with having those Capitalist all game.

It's hilarious to me how people don't understand that iron and steel are pretty much interchangable in a practical sense. In popular culture "steel" is seen as something totally different from iron, when in fact in this context they are pretty much the same. Iron is an element, steel is a compound. BUT. In the real world you never get pure iron (in fact 99,9% pure iron is very expensive and only used for chemical experiments). All naturally occuring iron ore is some compound and usually contains some amount of carbon. Anything, basically, above 2% of carbon in a finished product is not considered steel anymore but cast iron. Anything below is steel (if made by man). Iron and steel are basically interchangable in normal parlance. I never understood why people are so hung up about it. I even had several people arguing about this with me on the internet, saying that iron is not steel, when in fact it's a totally arbitrary assumption and any metallurgist would say you the same (unless they were anal retentive and wanted to prove a point and discuss 1% of carbon content outside a professional area of discourse). Anyway, this seems like a cool game. Wish I had a gaming group of my own. But nobody in my circle is into board games the same way I am. EDIT: Basic rules: If it's processed in any way it's steel or pig iron (or cast iron). If it's not it's iron ore. The symbols are ingots so they could be called steel or iron (since they are probably 95%+ iron in this context anyway) and it would still be correct.

I'm surprised that each time after 3 people used their 4's, the fourth player also used his 4, whereas he could win the card with a 3 at that point...
@davidarnott48503 жыл бұрын
But that's the cool thing about this bidding system: yes, at that point you could get a guaranteed win with a 3, but that means you're giving up the chance to get 3X compensation on one of your opponent's 4's... which is maybe better. PLUS, if enough people do that, you could win a card with a 2!

Sometimes I don't understand these types of games. It seems like the game ends where it should begin. You build up an engine to get all those points or money, then the game ends. You never really get to do anything interesting with the engine you create. Where this game ends you should be able to exchange some of those buildings into museums, or concert venues, or parks, or wildlife preserves, scholarship funds, etc. The Nikki and Lincoln scholarship fund to promote Right To Repair, and independent electronic systems repair. And Meeple design.
@boardgamegeek3 жыл бұрын
This one is a truly stripped down engine builder and benefits from that. The really neat twist is the change in nature of bids towards the end of the game as you hope to get the compensation instead of winning the card. I do recommend giving it a try if you get the chance. -Lincoln

If I were her I´d be so annoyed. I know you like to point out things for eachother in general but when it comes to D vs N it is taking to extremes. Also it is the whole gender thing which to me makes it look even worse.
