Lauren, I have been watching you since your early days and I was very happy to see you have this small dresser as I have the tall-boy of the same vintage. I thought you might like to know it’s history. It would be maple and it was from the late 1940s. I know this because the piece I have was my parents’ first dresser, which they shared. They had it for many years before buying a full bedroom set, relegating this dresser to me. Also, the only damage on mine, other than a water mark, was the wood on one of the legs (just like the ones on your piece) split a couple of years ago because the wood had gotten so dry over the years. If you still have the piece, you might use Howards on more of the wood to give it all “a drink”. I still have the old finish and the old knobs, so I was very interested to watch you put the old knobs back on it. Well done. I love watching your show even though at 72 I am not going to flip any furniture. lol Maybe YOU should keep it for a changing table in the future! Always, good luck.

I also have a tall boy, of the same vintage, and a desk. It was my mother's while she was in college. Became mine when I was born. Refinished by her mother when I got married. Now, I am passing it on to my son for his small business.

The wood is hardrock maple which, is no longer available . I have the headboard, footboard & side rails, the tall boy chest and full size dresser that goes with that small dresser you just finished. The set was handed down in my husband’s family and we have had it in storage for forty years+ and now I know what a great refinish will do for it. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.

Love this and had several cousins in that era that had the same. Yes, it is maple. I love it. Many memories of those small and larger furniture pieces that would match. I am 78 and it rings a memory of the 'good old days' to me. Love what you have done and amazing that you found that in such good shape. I am glad whom ever had it loved it enough to care for it. Beautifully done. Wishing you a Happy New Year and that all is well with you and your extended family. I loved it when your mother and grandmother would go with you on your hunts! Blessings

Yep, that’s maple. I had the whole bedroom set as a kid. My great aunt gave the entire set to my parents when I was three years old. She bought it in the 1930s or 40s, and wanted something more “modern “ in the 1950s. I used it with the original finish until around 1969. My uncle taught me how to strip the finish, so it was my first “flip”. We just put a clear coat of varnish on to finish it. It was my bedroom set for probably 30 years! Eventually moved to a guest room, then my daughter took it to her first apartment. The two dressers have been painted a couple of times, but are still going strong! Definitely sturdy furniture! Love the paint wash you used!

I have a pricey matte dark espresso bedroom set and the dresser drawers are lined with dark maroon velvet (I've also seen it with black and deep purple velvet). When you do a more expensive set, you might want to try that. It's a nice touch and the velvet adds to the illusion of luxury $$$ :) I looked up velvet drawer liner, peel n' stick. It's pretty cheap.
