Hello Lucia, I have enjoyed your video! I would like to contribute some information about water quality. As you mentioned some types of tap water can be dechlorinated by allowing it to sit open for a week or so. However, in my hometown they use a different type of chlorination process and this technique does not work. It is important to know if your municipal water supply uses "free chlorine" (is capable of gassing off with exposure to air) or "chloramine" (which has a much stronger chemical bond and will not dissipate). There are other considerations such as whether you have "hard", or "soft" water as well. Thanks for your content!
@PlantsandLucia4 жыл бұрын
Hiii! Thank y so much for this information! It is really useful indeed ☺️! So in your hometown you cannot use tap water to water your plants I suppose? Do you use rain water instead? I will pin your comment so others can see it 📍 thanks again for sharing ❤️!

@@PlantsandLuciaMy water supply has chloramine and most of my plants are fine with it. For fussier plants like alocasias and calatheas, i add water conditioner for aquariums that breaks down the chlorine and chloramine

Hi Lucia, thank you so much for all of your very helpful videos. I am a beginner that loves plants so I’m always watching videos. I bought my Calathea Rufibarba about 4-3wks ago. The soil was soaking wet and when I picked the pot out of the decorative pot there was a lot of water inside so the plant was sitting in water. Since then my plant is no longer sitting in water but the soil still feels moist/wet and it’s been about 4-3wks. I did notice the roots are growing out of the bottom of the pot through the drain holes. Should I repot the plant even though the soil is still moist/wet? Some of the leaves are starting to have crispy brown edges and some very light color. I have it on a humidity tray and I mist the leaves 1-2 times a day. I’ve moved it a few times to see if it helps. Temperature here is around 75 Fahrenheit.

I found a plant in a dumpster and I think it's this one except it's all green. Is it the same plant? It looked good when I brought her home but now she's 90% dead. The leaves are yellow and droopy and there are only few green ones left. I am now going to spray it and perhaps give it more water because the dirt has been pretty dry every time I have given her water. Do you think that I am still able to save her? I think she was in the dumpster about 24 hours and it was less then 16 degrees C. so I don't know if she just froze. Thanks for the nice channel! And where did you get those aprons? Hiiii! Just reading comments right now and got your notification 🥰 that is totally normal and it's so cool you noticed it! The Calathea family tends to do this and they are usually called 'prayer plants' becuase of it :) During the night their leaves go up, and in the day they open up. It's pretty amazing and this actually helps me to be more present ♥️ I have one Calathea Medallion, and sometimes when one leaf is going up it brushes the wall and I just hear the sound 😅 it's super cool!

@coradrury69283 жыл бұрын
And how do you mist?
@PlantsandLucia3 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you have 65% humidity, it should be really good for your plant. Calatheas generally need 50%-60% humidity so this should be okay :) Also 70F should be a good temperature for your plant. Just make sure that you keep these two like this, and to not give her too much direct light (as they prefer lower light conditions). And of course if you have any more questions, I am here :)

I would love to give mine some humidity but it's so difficult in cold Finland, Scandinavia. Our bathroom doesn't have a windows so this room is just not suitable because of the darkness unfortunately. My problem is that, yes it has yellow or dry leaves sometimes, but I just cut them off. My biggest issue is that the leaves stems bend when they grow bigger and longer, it's really bend like a broken straw and they can't get back up on their own. So the leaves just flop to the side and it's very weird and sad because I see all those pictures with strong stems and those plants can keep their leaves up on their own. It's in my warmest room already, not in direct sun. I am kinda out of ideas.

Hi! I'm sorry to hear this.. yes, this plant is very particular about what she likes.. Have you tried putting a humidifier in the room she is in right now? We use this one and it has worked for us : amzn.to/33HO3r4 If you do get a humidifier, remember not to put it too close to the plant... but have it in the same room so she gets the increased humidity.. If you have instagram, you could also send me a picture there and we can try to figure out what the issue is 😊
