The question about an Illustrator/KZbinr not being taken as seriously made me realize that these videos actually helps me empathize with illustrators, they're regular human beings who are interested in art just like us-- they're not meant to be put on a pedestal higher than me because of the high numbers. Before watching this video, I watched the 'unromantic part of being an illustrator' video. Seeing how Sha'an has done FOUR events in a row within a short time period (which includes being a moderator in VidCon and hosting workshops) really gained a perspective of what we don't see on stage, and I think that's awesome.

Honesty, this is probably one of my favorite vlogs you've done. Idk why. It just seems even more unfiltered, raw and real. We saw your whole process. Criticism, accomplishments, frustration, triumph. Plus you were particularly funny in this one. It felt really good. Love you Sha'an

I love that you just flipped it over and made the work on the other side!!! So smart and for some reason I wouldn't have thought to do that.
@laurenbreeze946 жыл бұрын
Good example of how hard artists can be on themselves. The best thing you can do is just take a break, get a coffee or tea, maybe a snack and come back, if you still feel the same about your work, move on. But most of the time you’ll think “oh hey that’s not as bad as I thought” keep on keeping on kidlets. ❤️ you sha’an, you’re a doll, I live for these videos.

It's impossible for me to watch your studio vlogs without a big grin on my face! You're such a ray of sunshine. I love when you include your process of pieces and working through the parts when you don't like the direction it's going! It's a good reminder that every piece is a process and artists don't just blink and a piece exists.

I love what you say at 10:20 because it reminds me of a Q & A where you mentioned initially creating work that was edgy, but not really "you" versus now where all your work is so cheery and full of vivid hues. This piece is stunning, I am obsessed with the colour palette!!

What i got from the vlog today is that when a piece goes awry you shouldn't be afraid to scrap the work and start over again,what i usually do is to waste my time trying to fix it and then trash it when there's no more salvaging it.but by then i would've wasted my time and paints.and another thing i picked up is you shouldn't be afraid to free-hand a painting, and not to rely on outlines too much.thanks a lot Sha'an!lots of love from the Philippines :3

Beautiful work. I love the documented working process- It's great to watch creative minds at work and having a self-critique, discovering what does and doesn't work and verbalizing that to the viewer- I found this part was really rewarding while at art school and is lacking from a lot of youtube videos from other creative types- ART is work it doesn't just appear you have to work at it.

I’ve found my final pieces for watercolor always turn out better after I draw and paint 2-3 rough drafts and then freehand the final piece. With charcoal it helps me if I draw something random first and then go in for the actual drawing. Everyone’s process is different but it’s good that you found your stride! Congrats on amazing print!!
@furrylittlepeach6 жыл бұрын
It's funny because for a long time the first process was my stride, but recently I was freezing up! It's funny how things change isn't it! With the charcoal thing, is that because you want the initial gesture of drawing something the first time? And thanks so much!

What printer do you use Shaan? And you've mentioned adjusting the colours in the print process, how do you go about that? Is it done directly on the printer or maybe photoshop etc?
@furrylittlepeach6 жыл бұрын
Hi Danielle! I'm not sure about the scanner - Chris owns it, but I can tell you about the editing process. I edit it on photoshop, and I tend to lower exposure slightly on the scanner if I can because then I don't lose as much detail if it's a little bright (it's easier to brighten digital than to darken it). I usually just compare the scan to the painting and see how I can make it more true to life, usually this means adjusting ssaturation, contrast and curves :) Hope this helps!
