I am an agnostic leaning towards aethism, trying to understand Geeta. So reading a translated work. I came here trying to understand this specific sloka, with the same question of how can one say spirit exists if its inconceivable, somebody should have been able to concieve it to say it exists . TBH, even with the explanation i am not convinced that it exists. I mean the explanation given in short was either believe it since god said it or if you observe a dead body it doesnt react and its because the spirit left the body Now I doubt the existence of god, so that explanation doesnt make sense to me at all. And even if he does exist, words get twisted when the message comes to you after crossing many people. So how can we just take it at face value? On the second example that was told, where the body of a dead person doesnt react to stimulus.The reaction of a body would be purely materialistic. I mean the brain and the nervous system controls every concious and the unconcious actions/reactions that our body does. The electric signal in the brain/nervous system is responsible for causing the body to react or not react. All of it can be detected using instruments. How can that be attributed to spirit, when we dont know what a spirit is. I am not sure what the role of a spirit in a body is. If anyone can shed some light into it, will be appreciated, But I doubt anyone can, since the text itself said its inconceivable and I am looking for hard proofs. Anyways will continue reading geeta, with the assumption that it exist.

Sir respectfully i want to say that i dont agree with your words .. as i have read swami vivekananda's book and in that its very clearly written that soul ( atma) and super soul ( parmatma ) are the same. As our soul is the part of that super soul only. So how can these two are different thing?? Har atma jakar osi paramatma m milti h ese hi salvation or mukti kehte h...atma akele rehkar kya karegi oska purpose kya hoga fer??

Hare Krishna. We don't say what we think. We present what is written in Bhagavad Gita. Soul and Supersoul are same in quality but not in quantity. Supersoul knows everyone's heart but as a soul I can't know the things going on in others' hearts. Please get a copy of Bhagavad Gita As It Is from ISKCON and read to understand the truth.

Aatma bhi individual hai aur Bhagavan bhi individual hain. Mukti ke baad atma apne divya roop me Bhagavan ke saath prem mayi seva me lag jaati hai. Agar maya ke kaaran hame bhram ho raha hai , to isse clear hai ki maya hamse jyada powerful hai. Fir ye apne aap siddh ho jaata hai ki aatma kabhi bhi bhagavan ke baraabar nahi ho sakti. Lekin jab bhagavan avatar lete hain to wo kabhi bhi maya ke vash me nahi aate. Bhagavan Shri Krishna batate hain 4.9 me ki unka janm aur karm donon divya hai, hamari tarah wo karm bandhan me nahi faste. Wo apni iccha se aate hain. Isiliye ham kabhi bhi bhagavan ke baraabar nahi ho sakte, mukti ke baad bhi. Kripya Bhagavad Gita yatharoop leke aaiye ISKCON se aur padhiye. Sab siddhant spasht hai usme. Hare Krishna
