Simply one of the most beautiful works of art masterfully performed. Thank you for posting.

Furtwangler's feel for the score was unsurpassed. There is something so elemental and primal in his feeling for German music that is simultaneously time infinitely tender.

Justin Carroll - not german, Bruckner was Austrian.
@GianlucaCagnaniJSBGLORY6 жыл бұрын
This is german music. Nothing to do with viennese 'joye de vivre' or style etc. Bruckner was deeply impressed by Wagner's music.
@aldolopez19785 жыл бұрын
Gianluca Cagnani Brucker was deeply austrian. Deeply catholic devout. Of course Wagner was a big influence for his music but not more than Sacred Latin music for organ. But all that doesnt matter. There is not an austrian culture. There is the culture of the german people. In the XIX century there was a competition for the prevalence in the rise of the new Germany and Prussia won Austria. But both of them had the same culture with obvious differences, of course. South germans have a catholic heritage while northern germans have a lutheran one.

20:34 and the horns ! at 21:54 ! as a german , when I am hearing this music in this Furtwängler moment , I doubt on everything . All ghosts and hopes are present , this is a calm delirium , a pure and lethal revelation .....

Aus dem Führerhaupt-Quartier - 3 Februar 1943 Das Oberkommando der Wehrmacht gibt bekannt: Der Kampf um Stalingrad ist zu Ende.................. This was the most likely version played after that announcement.

Someone take a time machine to Furtwangler and let him record some lossless FLAC's of this piece. Conductors make or break the enjoyment of classical music.

I also believe German radio played this following their announcement of Hitler's death in Berlin. It was preceded by a Brahms composition that I have forgotten. Author James P. O' Donnell , author of 'The Bunker' said of the announcement, " Brahms faded into Bruckner ".

the Celibdache version of this, one of the most beautiful of Bruckner's Adagios, is five minutes longer & equally slower you should try it to see how one of the great conductors of Bruckner compares with a rival. Furtwangler or Celibdache : Coffee or a sleeping.pill?

The pro-fascist U.S. élite installed themselves into the administration of occupied W.Germany and saw to it that many war-criminals got away with it. The Nuremberg-and other trials dealt mostly with front-men, fanatics and minor players: the invisible government of industrialists and financiers that put the Nazis into power and profited hugely from it got left well alone. Only the 'little people' paid the price. Read about the (family) relationship of Wall Street's John McCloy and 'squeaky-clean ' post-war German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer [who petitioned successfully for the release of a convicted S.S. killer, Martin Sandberger, who'd helped massacre thousands of Eastern European civilians].
