the kid saying "best job i ever had" in the end sequence loses so much power because they deleted all of the character building scenes with the crew. Fury should have been one of those 3 hour war films that went down in history as a classic, instead it was trimmed and cut until half the movie felt like a cheesy typical action production

So taking that into consideration, give the movie another watch! Its a great performance in my opinion by all the cast. One of my faves.

@@emmanuelesrael6480 I was in 2nd Ranger Battalion, it was in Afghanistan in October/November of 2010. We were working the Haqqani net work out of FOB Salerno in the KG pass into Pakistan when it called for it. While I do remember the name of the operation, I still I’m not allowed to legally disclose its name for another 15 years. We took a HAF a package (helicopter assault force) to a location with a suspected HVT that had been trailed to earlier in the day by our Joint air assets. When we, (the platoon) showed up we landed offset the X to bring a show of overwhelming force. This means landing about 100 to 200 m away from the objective and going hard and loud as opposed to a mile away and then you walk in under the cover of night. We hit to compound with suppressive machine gun fire, and the Gustaf while the first and second assault teams moved towards the breach point. When primary assault which I was a part of stacked up on the outer wall, the team leader gave the signal for the bolt cutters. As the soldier move forward to cut the bold off of the lock a large explosion sounded blowing out the window that was behind us as a small mushroom cloud of dust filled the night air from Daisychained 155 rounds going off in succession… *(Boom, Boom, Boom)* from their everything went silent…the audible ring as everything started moving in slow motion then suddenly very fast again… Luckily the walls there on the outer compound are probably about 12 inches to 24 inches thick of solid mud that has the consistency of brick and we were saved from any serious harm. The call *LANDSLIDE* came over the net with the team leaders calling it out audibly so that the rest of us could hear it. This is a codeword for a HBIED. _(house born improvised explosive device)_ As a squad we immediately started to retreat to the support by fire position in the ditch located about 300 m away…I remember thinking to myself the entire time that the field was going to be littered with land mines and I was very likely about to get blown in half, lose a limb or worse my Ranger brothers would be harmed… I kept thinking of that line in the Ranger Creed *_I will never leave a fallen comrade…._* Somehow, by the grace of God almighty, we all made it to the ditch unscathed…not a scratch. I remember having one of those moments like Pvt Mellish in saving Private Ryan after D-Day…silently crying inside thanking God for the protection then quickly sobering up and turning my attention back to the objective. Our platoon sergeant suggested to the PL that we drop 60 mm mortar rounds on the target until HIMARS came on station which is exactly what we did. We stayed there on objective until morning when we could do the battlefield and over with the local battle space owner from the 101st…The Rakkasans, who then sent in EOD technicians to sweep the compound. The entire place had been wired to blow with pressure plates and cell phone triggers attached to 155 munitions the moment we stepped inside… So that’s the story. It’s all true. I’m alive, living my best life as a business owner in Oklahoma City. I don’t think about it often, but when I do my eyes get wide and I’m transported back to a dirt field in the cover of night thinking about my wife and how I’m ever going to face her again after days like that…but make no mistake, I’m one of the lucky ones, It was an honor to serve. Everybody should know this is not a "deleted" scene but rather the "entire" scene. Most of this scene was in the movie but a few snippets and moments were trimmed out like Grady's little statement about being "fuckin ready" and storming the gates of hell to "snatch Satan by his fucking nuts." In the theatrical cut its a much shorter version that mainly get's rid of the argument about continuing their mission to get to the crossroads.

Would have been an all time great, some fantastic scenes thanks to the cast but let down by some damn bad ones thanks to the writers. This scene is so good, a direct contrast to the idea of a m-killed tank destroying a company of battle hardened SS, the only company BTW that didn't have any AT weapons.
@NeoFreakazoid
@NeoFreakazoid 2 жыл бұрын
That final scene was mind numbingly stupid. Infantry in WWII didn't even need dedicated AT weapons to destroy immobilized tanks. If, for whatever reason, one of the extensively issued Panzerfausts wasn't on hand to destroy it outright, they'd literally just throw a bundle of grenades or other explosives on the engine deck and let it burn. An immobilized tank without infantry support isn't a threat, it's a target. Even more so at night.
@bigpenny3509
@bigpenny3509 2 жыл бұрын
Well, in the film they are shown using attempting to use panzerfausts, which unrealistically only killed the commander with a direct shot. However, it would be more logical for the company to simply go around an immobilized enemy if it was that difficult to neutralize.

@marmite8959
@marmite8959 2 жыл бұрын
You're all misremembering what happened. The SS did have AT weapons WHICH THEY USED in the final battle. There is a whole big deal made out of them unboxing the crate of Panzerfausts. The SS lieutenant even says "They're all we have", which would make sense as it's 1945 Germany and supplies are going to be extremely limited. A couple crates of Panzerfausts isn't bad for a company of light motorised infantry. And when Fury is finally hit with a Panzerfaust rocket it penetrates the turret side and kills the loader. The shot is seen to go through the armour, through "Coon-Ass", and bury itself in the cannon breech. This is a fairly realistic portrayal of the damage that would be caused by a single small-diameter HEAT warhead hitting the turret like that. Bear in mind that the warhead shoots a very precise jet of molten metal (or explosive-formed penetrator rod, depending who you ask) which would create a minimal amount of spalling and shrapnel compared to an AP shell from a tank gun. At this point in the battle the tank has expended all of its 76mm shells and most of its .30 calibre bullets. There is very little in the tank- especially in the path of the Panzerfaust blast- that could cause Fury to explode. Sherman tanks had roughly an 80% crew survival rate if penetrated, and that's exactly what we see in the film; Fury is penetrated by an AT weapon and one crew member (1/5 or 20%) is killed. There are plenty of dumb scenes in the film, like how the 76mm-armed Fury is unable to penetrate the Tiger's upper frontal plate from only a few hundred yards at a flat angle, or how the Tiger itself bounces a shell off Fury's side armour thanks to some very lucky logs. Fury's additional .30 cal MG mounted just ahead of the commander's cupola is also anachronistic; being at best a very unlikely field modification or at worst inspired by the additional MGs that would be mounted to Israeli Super Shermans after WWII or the additional turret MGs seen on modern MBTs. There's plenty you can pick apart in this movie but the final battle scene, while dumb in many ways, does get a few technical aspects right. The effect of a Panzerfaust hit on the turret of a late-model Sherman being one of them.
@persona-non-grata
@persona-non-grata 2 жыл бұрын
@@bigpenny3509 Great point. This is the biggest oversight of the movie. The final battle, while stupid and mind-numbingly 'Hollywood' (bordering on Bollywood), simply doesn't make sense from a tactical standpoint. The Germans were notorious for having a *doctrine* that centered on *maneuver* . They would often simply bypass enemies that were too dug in to dig out. It's how they captured millions of Soviets in the first 6 months of Barbarossa. They did not engage in costly frontal assaults unless absolutely necessary.

I studied a lot of wwII history. The sense of futility fighting a tiger must have been a (brief) surprise to many Sherman tankers. The Pershing was late but easily a better tank for heavyweights. Thank goodness the tiger was so few in comparison.

The government does not deserve our loyalty at this time except reserved by a few good Congressman, I recommend you switch your profile picture to mine. This government has perverted and misrepresented what the flag stands for and what Uncle Sam stands for in order to make people believe what they represent is what America is. This government has created more enemies for their citizens and country because its in the back pocket of the war industry and all the companies that run it. Revolution is coming, the media has Americans factionalized when it should only be the people vs the corrupt government. They have divided and conquered but we all need to unite. Uncle Sam is wearing a mask because this government is any enemy that will make you disappear, they cant find out he still adheres to the bill of rights and the American people as its his duty to serve them as their government. The people now need to take back the duty of what government is and keep the country safe by not creating enemies, providing economic stability for all American families, ensuring corporations operating in the US pay taxes and benefit the economy. This government has taken this duty and sold themselves out to the corporations and international investment bankers who own the stocks of the Federal Reserve, a non-federal private banking institution, they exist solely for their own benefit by loaning the government among other unknown entities large sums of the money they created from nothing, which we owe interest

JFC the deleted scenes from Fury weren't the best parts of the movie, they weren't essential to the movie, they WERE the fucking movie. Without them, Fury was just some action movie, and they hinted at its themes. The scenes they deleted seem to be the ones critical to establishing the themes related to humanity. We can't get all that just because some kid had to shoot a prisoner and gets more grime on him as the story goes on. These deleted scenes show all these men having to wrestle with their humanity.

ugh for real. The whole anachronistic/unrealistic portrayal of tank warfare is something i could ignore because i saw this movie as an exploration of the effect of modern warfare on the human psyche and very correct, as you say it, it got only hinted at with so much cut material. Really cut down the rest of the crew as your standard movie battle-worn guys, instead of like regular guys caught in a shit situation and dealing with it. It could've been so much better if the producers hadn't decided to just make it another blasty-shooty WW2 flick; could've gone down as a timeless classic, despite it's faults in historical accuracy, but no.

Well! Apparently, from what I can see here - there were more CUTS to this movie than the whole movie put together! LOL! :D AMAZING ACTORS, THOUGH! One HELL OF A CREW!! :) BY THE WAY! When is this particular scene taken?? Was that right after the "encounter with the Tiger"??...

I did wonder after the Tanks track got mined off, if they had of hid from the advancing SS, then repaired the track as Grady said it could've been, and stormed the germans from the rear if that would've made more sense... ?

They smell literal smoke, fumes, blood, sweat and gunpowder almost everyday. They probably already got 13 respiratory illnesses, cigarattes are like a glass of water Ya cant compare that to smoking infront of a kid in a no-smoking restaurant

Inaccurate in that Shermans did not encounter Tiger tanks. Panthers, Panzer IV's and AT guns yes but not Tigers. So fearsome was the reputation of the Tiger the Allied troops saw them in the shadows and woods everywhere.

Honestly, few movies tends to leave such a disgusting impression. Yeah, war is a sick and dirty thing, but it seems way more sick and dirty when a tank crew basically comprises two original animals and a helpless officer who only pretends to control them.

What I don't understand about this scene is why they did not take every last bit of weapons and ammo from the other tanks, including some of the ordinance in the Tiger.,since they were going to defend the crossroads by themselves. There mght have been even a Panzerfaust or two in that Tiger.

You never really see these kinds of people in WWII movies, they are always proud men blah blah blah.. they usually fail to show their dark side. This movie was about some truly rough people that the war made even rougher.
