But its well written for Tom Cruise, the bar fight scene is reliant on the fact that Reacher looks like someone average guy could take on. The lack of Cruise's physique also justifies him being brutal. In the series with Alan Ritchson, the house entrance fight didn't work, it looked like four 5 foot nerds tried to gang up on a 7 foot linebacker. It also looked like Ritchson is overly brutal in the scene. That being said, it worked in the series when he had to fight against hardened criminals.

Whenever I look at Alan Richman, the new Reacher - all I see is The Swede - from "Heartbreak Ridge" - LOL.
@RageDaug3 ай бұрын
@@edfederoff2679 I think the difference is "The Swede" is, more or less, how Reacher is described in the books. So if you are watching Reacher and you see The Swede, then the character matches. Tom, for as phenomenal of an actor as he is and how well he performs this role, definitely doesn't match the character.

Werner Herzog could be doing his fucking laundry and he'd still creep me out. "Have you thought about the transient nature of that which we call possessions, and our need to so routinely clean, even if we're seen by no-one? It provokes a sense of dread, and a consideration to the outlay of laundry detergent. But, all the same, I will persist in this world, and wash my underpants."

Cruise doesn't have the voice or gravitas to play tough. He can play interesting, even unexpected, but I always know he'll end up doing his role as wish fulfillment for him and nothing for the audience. He has been waiting for his John Wick moment, but it hasn't happened yet.

Controversial take: I like Tom Cruise as Reacher. He just has more charisma than Alan Richardson. And this is coming from someone who's watched the TV series before the films and then decided to read the books. In the first 3 books, yeah he's tall and strong but not that many of his enemies are that intimidated by him. Most likely because they're around his size just 3 inches or so shorter.

@ThePortraitArt3 ай бұрын
I like both, Richson's physique is more on point and his acting is good too. Cruise's physique is different from source material but his acting is .. well, cruise AAA, a slightly more balanced combo between risk-taker/smart/physically-capable. So it's fairly even in my mind. One has the edge on build, one has a slight edge on presentation. (don't get me wrong, both are great at acting, and this is all subjective) Enjoyed both.
