I've never seen such a realistic depiction of banter as when everyone remembers the funny thing they were just saying and starts laughing again. Another deleted scene has Brad Pitt's character say "I wish [the war] would never end" in between everybody else talking and NOBODY in the group notices. That's some Spielberg-level writing and direction there.

Peña's delivery of his script was pretty hysterical in certain scenes. You have the soundtrack, the desperate look on the girl's face, Norman's staring at her almost with pity, then boom. Also the people that come after, especially these days, tend to see the vets who went through these hard times with almost sacred reverence. I saw a video of gun camera footage over which somebody had put Iron Maiden's Aces High, some of the comments were furious about the "disgrace" and "desecration" of the "sacred memory" of those pilots. Others were saying they wanted to "hear the engines". They thought gun cameras recorded sound!

For a movie called Fury, the tone is awfully melancholic. It's everywhere, from the lighting to the attitude of the characters. And I think that's why it's such a good war movie - It's not just about the anticipation of and the battle itself - It's about everything in between. It's hard to see tragedy when it happens in a turmoil. The true tragedy of war is best shown in the absence of battle. It's the parents that have to bury their children, its the starvation, its the hopelessness of those whos lives are destroyed. War is hell but not for the reasons most people think.

This scene was definitely shortened in the theatrical release. Makes me wonder why. My guess is that it possibly takes something away from Brad Pitt's character, with the moral relativism during war. He was the one to put his foot down at critical moments, and say 'this is right', and if we have doubts over his authority in that regard, the story suffers.
@hUCK-3 жыл бұрын
