Carl Froch & George Groves are back with The Verdict, after Oleksandr Usyk beats Tyson Fury by split decision to become the unified, undisputed, heavyweight world champion.
Fury saved by the ref (and the bell) in round nine, as 'generational great' Usyk completes boxing - but is that a reason to retire?

A 3 stone disadvantage? It depends if that 3 stone is muscle or fat really... He didn't have to chase Fury, that was his tactics and Fury was hardly stationery. Fury didnt use his longet reach to his advantage anyway... he was too busy messing about showboating 🤦🏻‍♂️

My generation would argue the smaller 16-17 stone heavyweights of the 70's to the 90's are the ideal size for speed, workrate and excitement. Its great to see the old school size heavyweight like Usyk outlast and outwork the behemoth of todays era and restore order to the land of the giants.
@paulnewton3059
@paulnewton3059 25 күн бұрын
Teofilo Stevenson the 3 times Olympic Heavyweight Gold medallist was asked what was the ideal height and weight for a heavyweight boxer. He said 6'3" and 15 and a half stone. He explained that for the human frame any extra weight was added baggage which would tire you down the longer the fight went on and 6'3" was plenty to reach anyone taller. I've always believed that speed and reflexes are the greatest qualities a boxer can have so yes the fighters of the 70s to the 90s weight was ideal because believe you me if your feet are placed and you punch weighing anything over 15 stone your opponent is going down. I loved watching Evander Holyfield climbing through the weights and have enjoyed Oleksandr Usyks journey since the 2012 Olympics.

@@surfguy87That would be gamble on Furys' part because if he doesn't get the K.O, he may gas by round 8-9 with all that extra weight. The way Usyk makes his opponents work and his ability to take wicked shots, would be gamble for the big man. Fury hit Usyk with some insane shots both to the body and head, but the little man took em.

@@G35149 Very true, but I think Fury played the "stamina card" for this past fight, and lost. Good observations about Fury's shot selection, the uppeecut and bodyshot were there for him all night. But it’s more than just belts it’s who gets People buying ppv. As good as usyk is technically the casual aren’t gonna spend 20 quid to watch usyk fight some nobody. Fact is he needs a fury or Joshua for the fight to do well financially. Fury bought a belt and massive crowd to buy the ppv so felt he was worth more than usyk. Now all he brings is fans so he should get 40% in my opinion

Round 9 usyk was about to close the show if the ref steps in at that point it should have been to wave it off for a stoppage TKO to save further damage to fury at that point. Ref and judges were bias. If it wasn’t for the one honest scoring judge the fix was in and the world witnessed it. So many dodgy officials it’s becoming way too obvious if that was possible. Credibility is being destroyed by bent officials it’s gonna destroy the sport with genuine hard working fighters being ripped off. Thats how I see it. What can be done.
