Glad to help Sean! If you're up to #5 you're no longer a noob. I think you'll find the rest of the tutorials in the series of 16 easy enough to follow even though they are in the slightly older user interface. Then there are the two Bodies and Components tutorials which are also pitched at beginners level. You can see the playlists here:- kzbin.infoplaylists

For the last few years I’ve been using Tinkercad to design all my 3D printing projects - good fun but quite time consuming for complicated parts e.g. trying to correct mistakes made early on in a design is a nightmare. I’ve had Fusion360 sat on my laptop for a couple of years now but, apart from loading software updates, had perceived it as too difficult to use, until that is I came across your 16-part basic tutorials .. what a revelation! Your teaching style is such that I’ve enjoyed every minute of the tutorials and, more importantly, learned a new skill. I’m now going through them for a third time (I'm addicted) - whilst also redesigning some of my earlier projects from Tinkercad in Fusion 360. However, I’ll still use Tinkercad, not for CAD but for its electronic circuit design capabilities where it’s possible to build circuits, test them and run simulations. Thank you Arnold!

@@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 I am at nr 6 but it seems like its from 2018 and you also have an older version of Fusion. Is more and updated parts on the way? part 1 - 5 is newer and i have done them several times, backwards and forwards so what I have learned from them helps me in your older version.

@Cogito, you've caught the clock. Number 6 is in the works but this is taking a while. I began the revisions some months ago and it will take a while yet. What I've found is that most people can follow the remaining tutorials in the older series. The changes are not too confusing, its really only a few tools that have been moved. I did produce a video shortly after the UI change which could help if you try to keep going, its here; kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6rWfHR6qtR1j8U Now that you know about the sketcher and the extrude tools I think you'll be familiar enough with where they are and you'll be able to follow with the new material each video introduces even though its in the older version. And of course write to me if you're stuck on anything.

At time mark 14:05, when you right click to get the face choices for the 3D Mirror command, I don't get that. I ended up going to the cube in the upper right corner and rotating to the correct side then selecting the plane there. That's the only way I could figure out how to select the morror plane. Do I have a setting or something different that won't allow me to do this? Thanks for these videos! I use F360 for both 3D printing and also CNC work. These have been a huge help to me so far! Great job!

Yes Michael, its not a right click nor a left click, how's that for confusing, well, actually it is a left click but its a left click and hold.... then the little selection panel shows itself where you can pick from the stacked entities behind where the cursor is sitting. As you have found, its not the only way to get the job done but this is worth getting, its very convenient. Persevere Michael, you'll get there!

Little problems are what happen to everyone learning new software. Its hard to see exactly what the problem is from your description but if its a showstopper, go on to the next tutorial, number 6 and come back later. Doing the tutorials a few times will help you to understand what's going on and more importantly drill it into your reflexes. Eventually that direction issue will be in the past.

@8:43 when you get to make radius of 30 for top half circle mine keeps saying its over constrained. Not sure why I followed all your steps, and mine is set up preferences same as yours. I have yet to have this issue as of using these tutorials to learn how to teach myself CaD so this is very frustrating so far. I have only gotten this far into video so far.
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 2 жыл бұрын
Joygasims, you'll get an 'overconstrained' message if there are any other constraints on your lines. Watch out for corners picking up snapping points. A good way to see if things are picking up constraints automatically is to keep going back to the Select tool and see if you can drag things around freely. Of course everything gets less free as you apply the various geometric and dimensional constraints but if you make a habit of testing the freedom of your sketch lines now and again, you will grow in your understanding of how these things happen. A good rule of thumb is to pay attention to where you put lines, avoiding anything that they might stick to.

How often do these videos come out download fusion 360 last week and now I’m keen for video 6 to come out
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 2 жыл бұрын
David, I would normally be striving to publish weekly but while I'm still doing a day job its going to be a bit slower than that for a while. Currently I'm working on fitting in the newsletter which goes to the people who get the free download of the 16 drawings. It sounds simple but that takes quite a bit of time from the regular hours that I've been setting aside for the channel. Sometime soon I'll be launching some tuition products related to the channel which I hope will be the beginning a gradual change to doing this full time. Then the rate of production will improve considerably. So the first six revised tutorials are done and the next one is already in the works. What I find is that after people have done the revised ones, they can usually follow the older ones for the remainder. The user interface update wasn't all that dramatic and it only takes a few minutes to see where the changes have been. You will have a pretty familiar way of working by now and you may not be phased at all by the differences but keep in touch, I can usually help with most questions. Here's the playlist for the whole 16 tutorials, new and old

Flaw with line to arc function the ability to arc the curve from a line seems to be limited to one direction when I come from left it goes down, from right it goes up, can see how to alter the direction?

Hi N67... this happens to some people, I know, I've heard of it but I've never been able to replicate that. What I recommend is using a straight line and then drawing an arc or circle and trim to get the same result.

Going through this again. Run in to a problem with the mirror function. I mirror the object, extrude then draw the notch but can not delete the base of it, as the entire bottom of the object is selected. What have I done wrong? Thanks Richard
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 3 ай бұрын
Richard, it sounds like you’ve got the order out of sync. Click the Mirror tool, select the feature to mirror, select the mirror plane and you should see the shadow where it indicates where the mirrored cutout ends up. Click OK to finish. If the base hasn’t been cut out then it’s a problem with the original feature, before the mirror.

When I did this I ended up with the circle in blue, so it seems part of my design was unconstrained but I was still able to extrude it.

At 10:52 it shows the dimension of the width of the mirrored object as 240mm, how is this done, I only seem able to dimension either side of the mirrored half (as 120mm), not the whole line, what step am I missing.

As you can see from the video I had an editing misshap. That part of the process was lost. I’m not at my desk right now but I’ll make a note to look into this when I return. I’ll confirm what I’m hesitating to assert, that you can indeed dimension across a mirror plane, nevertheless if you’ve got the right answer at this stage press on.

why is it when i want to select the entire sketch to delete it so i can start a new sketch, it gives me a blue square and no longer will drag to select? I was hoping to do it this way so as to not save start a new file. In order for me to delete the sketch, I have to manually select each line and delete it vs "dragging over it all to select then delete" 2: I don't have the option to mirror to the YZ plane, but rather just the two faces. (There is no option in the drop left mouse window to select the YX plane to mirror the small extrusion cut.
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 3 ай бұрын
Hi nwmi, sorry, somehow I missed this when you wrote three weeks ago. I hope you've solved these problems already but here goes; If there are problems with selection, try these things: 1. click on the Select tool up at the top next to the Finish Sketch button, then do the crossing select. 2. Drop down the menu under that Select tool and choose Window select and try again to do the crossing select followed by delete. 3. If its still not working, try opening the menu under the Select tool, mouse down to the selection filters, see the flyout to the right and check that everything is ticked ON. Confirm by clicking on the second item in that flyout list Select All. Its a toggle, make sure everything has a blue tick and then retry your crossing selection and the delete key. About your plan to avoid starting a new file, are you being wary of using up your ten active file limit? If you are, I've covered that in an eBook here payhip.com/b/J53Ee but basically don't worry, you can make your old files read-only to give you more active files. Open the data panel to see the button on each file to switch between Active and Read-only. About the mirror tool, what I was demonstrating there was the Select Through function. The origin has to be visible (check that) and it has to be in there behind the cursor when you hold the left mouse button down. Then you'll see that plane in the list of entities. Let me know how this goes if you haven't already taken care of them.

Why is it important to have the 2 points of origin in the same spot
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 11 ай бұрын
Greg, its just a convenience, it makes it easier to locate the hole in the part later on, it also makes it easier for me to dimension the features of the part and the drawing assumes that I'm measuring from there. You're only up to number five here, but by the time you're up to the last few you'll probably be coming up with a few more questions and be starting to form a feeling about how you prefer to do things your own way. Just keep following me slavishly until you are able to experiment a bit and decide what suits you. The idea of a tutorial is to give you a way of working so that you can then begin on some simple projects of your own.
