G’day Ian, I’m glad you got through it but here’s the link to the revised version of this tutorial. kzbin.info/www/bejne/goS1fH2dibiGasUsi=H95bblSTHwxMdlw7 I think you’ll find its better and more like the current version of Fusion. It’s a pity I can’t delete that old one, KZbin is set up in a way that my channel would fall off the map if I did. Sad for all the frustrated users! Also, here’s the link for the playlist page where you can see all the suggested videos to see in order. kzbin.info/aero/PLFCTgdiT5-kLBNvrkUNy63Gu1tWdRuKkr&si=oHgdn4H2lQWv8sJ1

Yes, N67414, the UI update wasn’t too major, most people are able to carry on, the tools are sometimes in a different spot but you’ve been doing it seven time already and I think you’ll be able to follow. If it comes to the worst, look back in the previous ones to get the answer. I’m still working on the revisions but it’s a bit slow going.

I've been trying to work through the tutorials, and am becoming frustrated. My version of Fusion 360 seems to behave differently than your upgraded tutorials. I've clicked on the 'preferences' link, and the list of preferences is some 3 years old, and considerably different than my version. When I try to duplicate the actions in your tutorials, I seem to get different results, for example, clicking on "Origin" in my version does not bring up the 3-axis display it does in your tutorial. I'm finding it difficult to duplicate your tutorial in my program, and frequently find myself going back many times to try to understand what you did in the blink of an eye. Initially, I was very enthusiastic about your learning program, but am quickly becoming disillusioned.

Thanks Arnold well done. I also saw Angus's video a few weeks back. Personally I think he was wrong to write off FreeCAD like he did. Its always improving and has recently fixed its topological naming problem, the main reason it has been rejected as a viable contender. From my understanding, it has some big methodological differences from the others, but its still quite as capable. Its workbenches actually make it more diversely capable than Fusion and Oneshape. Learning its quirks does take a brain shift, but thats all. I honestly feel that entering Freecad at this point is a ground floor opportunity for a piece of software that is only going to increase its market share. I think to overlook it on the say so of Angus, might lead you to miss out. I know time is your enemy, but I do wonder of FC has now come of age to be considered as a viable and free alternative. Also there is a new 3D CAD being shoehorned into Blender, that is attracting a lot of attention. It also looks strong but has another learning curve attached too. Also keep in mind, not everyone wants to design an F1 race engine, and FreeCAD is more than capable for hobby level, to light industrial design work. I love the idea that with FreeCad you can load it onto as many computers as you want. You can use it offline. Its free and always will be. For the Blender CAD, visit cadsketcher dot com

Yes, definitely. Open source needs no defense and the army of developers always keeps working. I have noticed recent improvements and I admit that someone starting out could do well with it. Still, I'm wary of recommending a change for people who have invested quite a bit of time if not money into Fusion which really does give unrivalled value when compared with everything else like it which begins at US$5000.

Hi Arnold 👋🏼👋🏼 I’m sort of stuck with Fusion ( paid licence), because I use the CAM capability. Note: I’m a hobbyist; I’m retired… so not flush with cash… so I too RESENT being screwed by Autodesk. I will say however…. that Fusion is the ants pants . I’m designing and building a 5” gge. live steam loco…. and the design capabilities of Fusion allow me to ‘trial’ assemble components to see if they will fit. The section analysis tool gets used almost every day… as does the ‘measure’ tool once I’ve done a section. Stand alone CAM software is 1), out of reach, and 2), needs ‘integration’. Fusion ( though expensive) gives me both. I started out as a ‘free-use’ hobbyist…. and I’ve watched Fusion 360 gradually attack that high-end clique over the years. Good luck to them…. I just hope I can complete my design & build before they REALLY start turning the ‘subscription screw’ 😖 Regards Robert PS Thanks for sticking with the ‘how to’ videos… VERY much appreciated.

thanks for sharing about your project and how you're using Fusion. This is what I love to hear about. There is no doubt that Fusion is still the best value by far. You get mid-range software for the price of bottom end software despite the rise. There's a long way to go if you measure the value at $5000+

@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 27 күн бұрын
I’ve been watching Plasticity for a couple of years, the developer was sharing his journey on KZbin and he’s done some good work rethinking how to do the sort of work he does. You could say artists, but I would call it an industrial designers tool. Now that the first version is on the market I think it has good potential but I did feel that it had a way to go with the features needed for CAD workflows.

I did look at Alibre about 15 years ago, it’s good to see they are still going and it sounds like development has progressed. Back then there was some concern when there was an ownership change, but the reason I didn’t pursue if further was the cheaper version had so many features missing. How is that $200 version these days?

I wasn't even aware that Solid Edge existed until about a year ago because It never showed up in any search I did for free CAD/3d modelling software. Solidworks for Makers is only $48/year which is a real bargain. I'm trying to use both of these to see which one I prefer, as they both seem to have all the functionality any hobbyist might need. I am angling more towards Solid Edge as it is completely cost free.

When a CNC machine (commercial machine for hobby) is put into the mix Fusion with built in CAM is really a bargain for me at a early purchase price of $310 per year. I do have a back up older version OneCNC Pro CAD/CAM package that is a permanent license, even at the $310, while a bargain is rarely used any more. Fusion is due again in October of this year so I just might revert back to the older OneCNC Package, not the modeling power of Fusion but still plenty of options for all that I really need any more.

Hi Arnold, Ray from sunny Qld here sitting near the fire place taking advantage of your good nature and videos. Much appreciated, clear instruction. What is the best way to converse with you re-learning Fusion or engineering questions? Just watching tutorial revised part 7 you say origin back facing on the same axis mine is saying Righthand. Thanks for your invaluable time, Ray.

Good on ya Ray! My wife and three daughters are on holiday there right now. That was a blooper, well spotted! I’m not too concerned about which way is which since you can always change it later. I’ve got a video on how to re orient things here:-
