Haha. Perfect Lars. Exactly what I was looking for. And yes I wanted 4 holes but was easier to send just the one

Hi Lars! Thank you for your videos. Few months ago I struggled so much that I closed the app to never use again. But each time I watched your videos I thought “It does not look that hard, I can give another try” and finally made it through. I use the software easier now. Your videos give courage to us! Greetings!

Coming from Sketchup, this has been the most difficult adaptation. Thank you for making it so straightforward.

This video was great at explaining how to constrain holes... I have a situation which I could use your help. I have a hole #1 on the base Sketch and hole #2 on construction plain about 10mm above hole #1. How can I get hole #2 to align and constrain with the center of hole #1?
@davidcarter8932
@davidcarter8932 5 жыл бұрын
I would avoid formulas containing subtraction in this situation. I would dimension the circles (d1+d2)/4 from the origin. This is the average size of the rectangles divided in half. That way, if for some reason the inner rectangle is changed to be larger than the outer rectangle, the holes will still be in the correct position.

A great solution for that type of task. Nice one Lars. I saved this link among many others.It covered many constraint basics all rolled into one task,very very usefull. You got to get a smoke machine :). BTW i have a question, What is that machine behind your right shoulder on the wall?Its been driving me nuts trying to figure out what it is lol

@03:55 I'd like to propose for Autodesk to add an option in the settings for those d1, d2, etc... _Shortcuts_ to be permanently displayed next to the already visible measurements - Would, IMHO, really help with the workflow. Btw... I do all my designs in Metric but every once in a while have to use Imperial numbers when it comes to measurements based on the diameter of the Endmills I use. So far I haven't figured out if there's a way to temporarily ( just for the currently active measurement! Not the entire sketch yet alone the project ) enter an Imperial number. Like a sketch with a rectangle and a 1/4 inch sized hole going like L: 10mm W: 15mm Ø: 1/4 Inch - Instead of whipping out the Win10 Calculator, changing it to Length Conversion and calculating 0.25 of an Inch into 6.35mm to be entered into the sketch.

You can indeed mix inches and millimeters. If you need to enter say 4 inches and you have it set to display metric units, just type "4 in" and it will automatically convert it to millimeters.

Display dimension labels. Great idea, write it up in Suggestions (search first.) It should be selectable, and default on the ENCOURAGE ppl to use it. Right-click on a label to: Rename, disable display for that label, disable all labels. Heck, I'd frequently like name displayed bit value. I know the value. I need the name to make it easier to find, rather than looking for the parr, then finding the dimension lines, and finally finding the dimension. Steal my ideas when you write the suggestion. Three months from now a new feature will appear.

Great vid Lars! What would you say the advantages of constraining the hole's position like that are instead of using a faster and simpler mirror?

None. That would be a legit approach 👍😊

I am trying to figure out how to locate holes (as opposed to circles) at a point offset from the center of a rectangle. Want to use holes instead of extruded circles so I can use threads, drillpoints etc etc. Is there any way to do this?

Hi Lars. I've made a waste board with 200 od circles that need to now to make into holes. All circles are the same diameter. Is there a way to select all 200 plus holes and make them go all the way through my waste board? If I have to do this one by one would take make a lot of time. Appreciate your help.

Why not just make a construction line from the corner of the inner rectangle to the corner of the outer and constrain the circle to the midpoint of the construction line and constrain all the circles to be equal in diameter?
@cadcamstuff
@cadcamstuff 5 жыл бұрын
Because then I could not show the cool function of doing math in the dimension dialog box :-)
@rivlry1975
@rivlry1975 5 жыл бұрын
Love that way Jim. Easier to do now that I have tried it, at the same time tho I do like seeing the side of things as well. While I would probably use the construction line in this instance I don’t think I would have thought of the mathematical way in another. I appreciate both ways 😊😊
@RogerGarrett
@RogerGarrett 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, that is the best solution to the problem, just a simple center-point on a diagonal construction line. While the math-in-dialog-box approach does indeed show how to do math inside the dialog box, that wasn't the issue at hand.
@rivlry1975
@rivlry1975 5 жыл бұрын
I do like the mathematical way but for ease of designing the midpoint way is easier. More knowledge is power is how I think of it. Thank you Lars for your help
