The Fusion 360 Personal Use license changes are melting down the internet. Well certainly the forums and wherever Fusion 360 is discussed.

In response to the uproar, the management team at Autodesk have relented somewhat and decided not to remove the ability to export STEP files. The 10 document limit remains, however, and will come into effect on January 19th 2021. In this video I survey a range of other KZbinrs and their comments and I demonstrate archiving and restoring projects in order to work around the 10 document limit.

Arnold thank you for all the time you put in to teaching us. I don't see the archive as a selection when I right click on a document in my data panel. What am i doing wrong? Thanks.

First off, I love all the content! I'm actually starting to feel "comfortable" using Fusion 360. In this video, you talk about printing the drawing of your grinder project. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to do this. I am using the free version of Fusion 360. Oh yeah, I would love to see the grinder design series. Is that still coming in the future?

Yes, Kenneth its still coming, I was thinking over that project only last week but there are still a lot of items in front of it at present. In the meantime you might find the video on basic drafting useful for a beginning. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHqup6aQhslsb6s

Hi I retired several years ago and I am learning fusion just for something to do. I tried archiving parts of the 16 lessons so I could get past the ten limit, but when I press the right mouse key I do not get a choice to archive anything, I get a list of 11 choices but sadly archive isn’t one of them. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Terry

Thanks for the background Terry. Who know's what you might do yet? Kevin Kennedy's video on the ten limit is probably the best tutorial out there, check this out; kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIuciKaparlorbs

Hi Arnold, thanks for sharing your experience. Im working on project and have an issue to make two components linked with each other. If i use move command on top component the linked below component doesn’t update the position. Need a help please

Hi Yasi, I'm not sure what you're trying to do here, it makes a difference if you have applied joints already or 'grounded' any parts. When you've moved a component an icon appears in the ribbon bar where you can 'Capture position' or 'Revert position'. Have you worked through my tutorials on Bottom Up and Top Down Assembly?

Hi Arnold, thanks for your prompt reply. Yes i was working with the same what you did in the topdownd. But there is some missing on my file. My second component is oring snap and second component is plastic base part which has cut base for the snap to be fit in. I need when i move the oring snap component the cut base component update and move with the snap. For more photo explanation please drop me an email and that will be my pleasure salem@yasi.abudhabi

Before seeing this video, I was going through the 16 basics tutorial and discovered the 10 limit. I exported my completed design to my hard drive and then deleted it from the project folder to free up the 10 limit. I seem to be able to access the exported file without issue if I needed it. I will give the archive feature a go.

Yes, give it a try Angelo, I think you'll find it an easy way to organise your work. There will be no need to delete and manage copies, just switch them on and off as you need them.

Hi Arnold. First off; let me thank you for answering all your viewers comments - it is very much appreciated; especially on tutorial videos. I have been bouncing around your lessons and just saw this one. (I have to admit I never watch any video with someone who has an opinion and making a face at the same time. lol) I did want to ask mate, I see that we can no longer do an export to DSX or do a save as; per your instructions below. This was a comment from a year ago but wondered if you had another solution to that please? As always - Many thanks and catch up with you again soon I am sure. Cheers....Jim

Hi Jim, firstly, regarding DXF (or was is DSX?) I just checked and you can save out a sketch as a DXF, find the sketch in the browser, right click and find the save as DXF option in the right click menu. Then, Kevin Kennedy pulling a face - don't let that trip you up, Kevin makes the most helpful videos, you should certainly be subscribed to his channel and his video on the 10 document limit is where I go to confirm all questions on that topic.

Hi Arnold. Do you do a copy and paste tutorial.
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 Жыл бұрын
That's a good idea David, it should cover copying and pasting in the sketcher as well as in the timeline and the browser tree to the left. Where is it that you're asking about? In the sketcher?

I appreciate your videos and the quality of the training you provide. That said, I've decided to switch to FreeCAD for my hobby use. Have you considered ever doing a series on this software?
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe, sorry to hear you're leaving. I might take a look at FreeCAD down the track sometime but I paddling hard to put out my stuff on Fusion. I have taken a look at Blender though, which I wish I had time for. If you search on KZbin for "Can Blender do CAD" you'll find some interesting items.

@@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 thanks for the direct response. I really appreciate it. I'm in the Navy and my inability to access the internet for extended amounts of time make cloud-based software like fusion unavailable to me which was one of my primary drivers for the change. Of course the licensing for FreeCAD is tough to beat and once I get around its initial quirks I'm finding FreeCAD to be quite capable. While I have investigated Blender for CAD use as an option it seems like it just isn't ready for use as a primary solution right now. I do look forward to seeing it evolve however.

Since you prompted me I took a look at a tutorial and it does look quite good. Its certainly a better option for you while offline. Open source is certainly good in many cases. I like a program called Paraview for simulation results which I do plan to cover in future.

@Dev Guy I prefer to avoid virtual machine environments. I've been learning FreeCAD and have found it to be fairly capable so I'm pretty happy with it now. Thanks for the suggestion though!

@Dev Guy it's a learning curve for sure. The realthunder fork has recently implemented a much improved boolean function. I haven't messed with it too much yet but looks promising.

kjoleary, here is a quote from the announcement from Autodesk: Save As DXF is still available from sketch. DXF will not be a supported file format from File > Export, but you will still be able to right click on a sketch in the browser and select Save As DXF for your laser cutting and routing needs. It looks like you can save your dxf profile from the sketch. It is 2D that you want, am I right?

@@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 Awesome -Thanks for the information. I didn't know I could do this from the sketch. Yes, I mostly use it for 2D. thanks again.

AGAIN,,,, the problem is any short term gains can ( and WILL ) be wiped out at their whim.... We have no bargianing rights at all!... Just cut them OFF and change to FREE CAD!... or Blender or some other FREE app. You know FreeCad will be getting better and better... and with a larger user base... better!
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 3 жыл бұрын
Again? have you made this point here before Phil? I think your bargaining rights are just what you're recommending; keep your money and spend it elswhere and I have no problem at all with that. I also agree with you, open source is always improving, especially Blender which I plan to learn one of these days and no doubt FreeCAD will too. But no thanks, I'll continue with Fusion 360 for reasons I've alluded to in the video.
