I am a first year engineering student at ASU. I was looking all over the internet, multiple hours, trying to find out how to do what you just explained in less than 3 minutes. AutoDesk didn't even have the tutorial for "converting" from an stl to a solid body with which you can 3d print an object with. You are an amazing teacher and have gained yourself a subscriber that will be watching all your videos this year! Thank you!

Great video Lars. I noticed if I stop capture of design history and right click on the model I'm given the option to convert the model to a BRep. What's the difference with this approach as opposed to using Remake to convert to a quads file?
@cadcamstuff
@cadcamstuff 7 жыл бұрын
My understanding... is that Brep is just a collection of surface boundary, where converting the triangular STL to Quads makes a better result. I could be wrong :-)

Hi Lars, Thank you for producing this video, I have been learning more from your videos than the entire Fusion academy. Great work Sir, your teaching style is very conducive to intuitive learning, you teach from a fellow user's perspective instead of preaching the capabilities while simply displaying what Fusion can do, which seems to be the Autodesk teaching style.

Hello lars. I have really appreciated your videos. I am a hobbiest who makes rc aircraft and am having difficulty with a dwg file. I was able to import it but upon editing it (getting rid of a bunch of stuff that was not necessary and adding some alterations) When i look at my sketches, there are dots at some of the intersections (i think) indicating lines are not connected to curves etc. Is there any way to fix this or one of your videos that shows how to correct it. Thanks

Thanks Lars for the GREAT video. I wish AD video were up to your quality. On a different subject - when changing tools in F360 should the posting tell the CNC to move to HOME (G28) as well retract Z? Or is there some function in the CAM you need to select to move the work away from you tool? Looks like I've got to edit my machine specific "post processor configuration" again thanks for any help or not
@cadcamstuff
@cadcamstuff 8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. It really depends on the machine/controller if you want/need to tell the machine to go to G28 and retract....Well, I think I always want the machine to retract before a tool change :-). what I'm trying to say, is that it could all be in the M06 macro. Make sure you check the options (depending on what post you use) that you can control in the lower right corner in the post processor dialog box (the screen with the drop of all the posts that comes with Fusion.) If this doesn't help, I would suggest that you check out the forum. There are some crazy smart post people over there. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Have an awesome day!

1st. you need to make sure that you have the "Mesh" workspace checked in the Preview section of the Preferences (Click your name in the upper right corner) 2nd. The Mesh workspace is not going to be available until you have a mesh file open in a window, like a STL file. Hope this is helpful! Have a great day!

Hi Lars, Im teaching myself Fusion 360 and as is typical for me I start by going to the most complex operations:-) so I apologies if this is a really dumb question. So Ran a an STL through Momento in order to bring it in as quads. (Incidentally there is a preference in Fusion 360 that is by default set to import as Triangles which must be switched off if we really want Quads) any way.... Now I have bought in my model and converted it as I want. When I scale the object the model scales correctly but moves randomly in space away from the origin - how do I reset the origin to put it back into a logical place wrt to the model. looking at other videos from DIYs this seems to be a common frustration if you don't know how to control where in space your model lives. Of course if you address this in another video do let me know so you don't have re answer the same question. Thx in advance Grant

I have to admit that I know nothing about Maya. I found this forum post, does that help? forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/i-can-t-figure-out-how-to-get-my-maya-files-in-to-fusion-to/td-p/5520958 If not, let me know and I can have someone possibly chime in.

Hi Lars... Thank you for taking the time to create these training films. You are a good teacher of the subject matter. I am brand new to this, and was wondering how you re-oriented an imported STL file for 3-d printing. - For example, lets say you drew a pyramid, but you drew it upside down, where it is balancing on the point. Then, you make an STL file of it, and I get the file from you - - It could be printed like that, but it would need much support fill-in, and would waste a lot of media. How would you import that STL file, and then re-orient it so that the base of the pyramid is on the bottom when you 3-d print it? (or would just changing the view as you demonstrated take care of that when you select the 3-d print option from the imports file?) Thanks again for your patience and time.

Never mind the question above....I just discovered that you can change the orientation of the part in the slicer program before generating the g-code. (The adventures of a noob!) Thanks again

Lars sorry for my delay. I've done much work on this and found the script that writes the G-Code for my mill does not work correctly. The sad thing is Autodesk does not want to help so I'm on my own. I'm going back to old CAD-CAM program because of the following reasons. I feel Fusion 360 is not mature yet. It's missing many basic tools. Fusion will say the workflow is different, OK fine then tell me how to do what I can in other programs. That brings me to the second reason to move pass Fusion 360. I've posted many times on the fusion forum. Many of my posts are never replied too. Thanks for all your great work, but I have to move on.

Hi Lars, I've been messing around with fusion for a couple of days and imported a complex SW part (about 100 features and way more sketches). But for a complex model is there anything that you can really do/change with it? So far it seems the only thing I can do to it is turn it around, and no way to find out it's dimensions.... Thanks
@cadcamstuff
@cadcamstuff 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Rudivg30dett Thank you for watching! You do have some pretty good direct editing tools available in Fusion. The problem is that SW does not share the sketches and other information such as mates when you open the file in another system. Check out this video on some cool tips on direct editing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIC9aHSrgr13gJI Best, Lars

Thanks alot Lars, you're pretty dedicated even repsonding on sundays :) The direct editing is unfortunately unsuitable for the complicated part I'm trying to modify. Basically, to do a proper job I would have to measure every aspect of the Solidworks model and completely redesign it right? Thanks alot, Rutger

Hi; question: How can I import a fusion file into another design, but without any links in place, so that I can delete the original imported file.....(just to add: when I insert a file into another and then break the link, I still can not delete the original file because the import action is captured in history even though link is broken) Thank you

@@cadcamstuff Hi Lars, Thank you for response. I actually discovered that in Fusion 360 the only (non-mesh) design files that can be imported into a design without any reference to a cloud file, are the McMaster Parts and Manufacturer Parts. Everything else can only be imported with reference to a cloud original file. Regardless I'm happy with Fusion 360 and I think it's great :) I just hope they add the capability in future updates.

I tried to find memento (because I have a mac) but I was directed to ReMake because they said that memento had "graduated" into Autodesk ReMake (whatever that means). So I went to ReMake and there was an option for mac. But when I clicked on it I was sent to a page that said ReMake for mac will be retired for good. Which is just a nice way of saying mac users don't matter. So is the only option for converting STL files into solid bodies lost for mac users (besides the obvious work around of installing windows on a mac)?
@cadcamstuff

To my knowledge, they are working on getting ReMake functions into Fusion. That should make mad mac users happy...I would think....

Hi Lars, Is it possible, once you convert the model into a solid, to then sculpt or add or modify that said solid? Like add more geometry and push pull or extrude etc.? I use Zbrush and now I'm trying to learn Fusion and I'm trying to then import zbrush files like STLs and OBJs etc. into Fusion but then I have to do some finagling and then ultimately to no avail to be able to sculpt on the model. I also have trouble with using the imported model as a stencil for instance to create a sketch or to use the model as a stencil to create new bodies etc. My goal is to use models I've made in zbrush in Fusion to clean them up, refine them, and create nice, clean hard surface models/geometry. Over all I'm just having some trouble learning this software and trying to do the things I need to do. :\ Can you help me? Or someone else who's reading this? Ppplllleeeeaassse

Hi Stephanie McDowell Thank you for watching! You you have a couple of options. You can change the STL as a mesh: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXy7p3yNpbGim7c Or, you can use direct editing after you turn it into a solid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIC9aHSrgr13gJI
