I stood next to Kathryn Hahn outside the Academy Museum after I got out of the John Waters exhibit. She took my breath away, she was so pretty and cool and effortless (and tiny!) My friend and I decided not to bother her, but I wish I would have told her how cool we all think she is. As if there were any doubt, a hopelessly gorgeous couple pushing a fancy stroller approached and waved “Kathryn hiiiiiiii!” and we were like, yeah. Agatha All Along is off to a great start! Thank you friends for the great deep dive! I am so thankful for your perspective on this show. I do agree the pacing was different than what we have seen before; however, these actors all have strong resumes and it is great to see them engage with each other with the looming curiosity over each of them at the end of each scene. I have watched both episodes three times and on the third watch I noticed the Teen's anchoring similar to Agatha. They both carry themselves and demand to be heard, but there not fighting for the center of the scene, rather they share. The cast is stacked and I'm very interested how they use and focus each of them to get "glory at the end." One part that really stood out to me is when Agatha opens the door and examines the sand before their decent. This parallels excellently to Joseph Campbell's "The Hero Journey" and we quite literally are crossing the threshold! I couldn't help but wait in anticipation as Katherine Hahn crouched, examined, and dropped over the doorway, truly believing what she is seeing. I am quite fascinated to see how these characters all develop and change upon this quest!

What truly delights me, though, is the fact that the creative visionaries behind "Evita" Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, and Alan Parker all recognized that only Madonna could authentically embody the iconic Eva Perón. They made a deliberate choice, and it was the right one, period. Regarding "Agatha," it was brilliant to see how the producers crafted the arrangement, blending her voice into the chorus to ensure the song felt timeless, knowing her vocals would date the song. That's how you earn an Emmy and send a track to #1. Many seem to overlook this context, focusing instead on a disgruntled woman's complaints. It's worth noting that you don’t hear legends like Meryl Streep or Michelle Pfeiffer lamenting over missing out on the role of Evita, even though they were also contenders. Perspective is key, darlings.
