On my way to work in Canada, underground in a parkade all day, all week. These people are lucky to be born there.

I'm sure there are some drawbacks to their way of life, but seeing them really makes me wonder if our modern technology and comforts are truly worth it 🤔 It's as if we've created problems just to sell the solutions!

It's important to note that there are two Futuna Islands in the South Pacific, the one belonging to the Vanuatu chain, and the other one far to the east between Samoa and Fiji comprising the French protectorate of Wallis and Futuna. I believe the video relates to life on the Vanuatu island of Futuna and not the other one . . .

In the Philippines we also eat the Taro & not only the root but also the Leaves & the Stems...we peel their outer skin then lay out in the Sun to dry up a little bit then cook it with coconut milk & some grounded meat or small dried fish & spice it up with chili...we call it "LAING"

Futuna is at the south part of Vanuatu. It's actually isolated from the islands. I've never been to Futuna but hope to one day. Watching all the way from Vanuatu

Seafaring in the pacific is not exclusively a ‘polynesian’ heritage.
@Sunspear2Ай бұрын
Exactly
@iwa817Ай бұрын
Why does this mini doc make like “Melanesians” and other Pasifika are not also seafaring cultures? You have people all throughout Oceania that are not “Polynesian” that are also seafaring and are attached culturally to the Ocean. Also this island is considered a “Polynesian” outlier so the people are Polynesian. I prefer the term Pasifika because these colonial labels (created to establish a hierarchy) cause people to get into bizarre debates about features and skin color (even though most of my “Polynesian” ancestors were darker than the people in this video, had wider noses and had curly frizzy hair…)
@hurricanenigel5111Ай бұрын
😮they dont look Polynesian,they like fiji..all mix poly mela
@iwa817Ай бұрын
Fijians (iTaukei) are considered both “Polynesian” and “Melanesian.” We have Fiji as one of the cultures at the Polynesian cultural center here in Hawaii. “Polynesian” is geocultural construct. There really isn’t a “look.” Like all other Indigenous peoples phenotypes will vary greatly. For example, my ancestors don’t look like Samoans or Tongans even though they are also “Polynesian.” Historically, people like this have always existed within “Polynesia.”
@KumulFly-jt5stАй бұрын
Theses are Melanesiand not Polynesians
@iwa817Ай бұрын
They are Polynesian. Futuna in Vanuatu aka West Futuna is considered as a Polynesian outlier. There are several other outliers off of Vanuatu as well as the Solomon Islands, Bougainville (PNG), New Caledonia, and a few in Micronesia. Polynesian is a geocultural construct
@silverback1243Ай бұрын
Poly, mela, and micro are colonial terms. We don't adhere to such rubbish. We're people of pasifika, children of the stars
