I love how this episode plays out, framing Bender for something he totally would do, but actually didn't. And Fry was a true friend to take the fall for him like that.

Gilgamesh is an actual character from a story: The Epic of Gilgamesh. He was a king of Babylon and a demigod, and he is considered the first hero due to how old his story is.

The story is drilled into my head from school and I did not like learning about it. Still pretty good to reference in this tbh.

i love that fry knows bender well enough to know EXACTLY why he would start a fire and why he wouldn't, as well as spot the flaws in the theory he did it. at least at first

Epic of Gilgamesh, iirc is the oldest written story we've discovered. 2500 BCE I think.

It's fun - Sometimes, Bender is the hero, sometimes Bender is the villain, and sometimes, he's neutral. He very much acts on his passionate emotions, and a simple whim can make him go in any direction, although traditionally, it must be noted that he is a villainous character of course, an anti-hero technically. This episode features Bender at his most heroic, he saved the whole world.
