What are loops and kits? Are they different than just full on beats??
@ProdChikara
@ProdChikara Жыл бұрын
A loop is the chords/melody without any drums, so producers often send loops to each other to collaborate. one producer might send (or sell) a "loop kit" which is a pack of samples/loops that they created. Then the other producer would bring it into their DAW, add drums + bass, etc. and structure it in a way to create a full instrumental.
@SP7000SP
@SP7000SP Жыл бұрын
@@ProdChikara oh damn. That’s funny, I used to be heavy into making beats, but I was never good at drums, 808’s, snares, or high hats, so I always just made 3 minutes of basically a piano, synths, and other melodical stuff, to where it WOULD be a full beat if you added the stuff I wasn’t good at. So I was actually just making loops this whole time?
@frankflux
@frankflux Жыл бұрын
I guess my main question is if I was to send out my loops to diff producers (with out a previous working relationship) for free how do I know that I will be compensated if it gets placed or is that a risk that everyone has to deal with? Thanks Dill.
@DillyDGIB
@DillyDGIB Жыл бұрын
If you can prove you can always lawyer up and get your $, sometimes the lawyer fees eat up the advance, but at least you get the credit and the placement and now have an opportunity for a relationship with the artist it got placed. But 90% of people do business honestly anyways. The people with low integrity don't last long imo
@DaDirtyTroll
@DaDirtyTroll Жыл бұрын

I think another important thing to keep in mind is education. While it is possible to become successful without education, going to college and learning all things audio will not only make you better at making music, but it will also allow you to build connections.

It could be a good route, there's pros and cons to everything. That wasn't a part of Kxvi's or my path, so we don't speak on it, but tons of successful musicians have gone to music school and met people. Different strokes for different folks
@ZxAMobile
@ZxAMobile Жыл бұрын
I think doing that would be a horrible idea all of the countless hours wasted having to deal with college you could become one of the greatest producers in the world if you put your time in and actually understand producing music on YOUR OWN. The greats don’t copy/learn from 1 person/institution.
@ZxAMobile
@ZxAMobile Жыл бұрын
@John D the thing is you should not be doing anything to make money. If you’re going to produce music you should be doing it because you want to be the greatest music producer in the world and the money should just be secondary if you’re doing it to make money then you are a trash human being and you don’t deserve any money. Or, rather, I should say, if your initial/only purpose for producing music was just to make money if you find yourself only producing music to make money but initially you wanted to do it out of a passion now that makes sense. And yeah, I agree with you. It is 100% about connections this dude got extremely lucky and the worlds best music producers that you find on SoundCloud that have been producing for over a decade make almost no money unfortunately, going into the future all music producers are going to go extinct because of AI and this applies to all artists in every profession. It was a good idea to start producing maybe a decade ago, in terms of making money but for people watching this video and thinking they can just start producing music and make money without getting lucky or having connections. Yeah that’s not happening. Even the lucky ones might be making 1000 bucks a month but they are putting in over 100-200 hours just to make 1000 bucks and making less than minimum wage. Don’t do anything just for the money screw the money money is a nice bonus. The only thing that matters is the glory and being a legend. Fame/money is wack.

I noticed the 2020 loop snippet you played sounded like it was recorded all by him on a midi keyboard. It was quite rudimentary. Whereas the 2023 loop you played sounded like it was a collage of loops he's actually put together inside his DAW, maybe adding additional instrumentation himself along with hiring a singer? What's the etiquette on selling loop packs? Can you just go on splice and use other peoples loops and build a new loop around that and then sell it on? Or should it all be totally originally made by you.

The problem with this is it only seems applicable to hip hop/rap.

I don't think so, say you do pop music do the same thing in that lane and connect with bigger producers who are making sales/getting placements by adding value and grow your network that

i feel this. I produce in the electronic genre (specifically jersey club and deconstructed club music, as well as house/techno) but i'm not just producing, as i also DJ. This information confuses me as someone who aspires to break through in the producer/DJ world of electronic music rather than "strictly music producer sending loops and wanting to get artist placements"

$30,000 per month is honestly not much comparatively. I'd have anticipated him making a lot more with a GRAMMY nomination... Now that he's got some credits, he should have more leverage in negotiations and charge for the beat + stack residuals in the back-end.

I don't want to put anyone's personal stuff out that didn't volunteer it themselves, but you'd be surprised on how many grammy award winning producers are doing wayyyyy less than that

@@DillyDGIB I say everything with respect of course. There are however producers out there with 1/10th the talent who are making 7 figures from sales funnels selling to mostly aspiring artists. To have your name in the “prod by” section of a hit song is very Googleable… I’ve wanted to partner up with artists on the above for a while but don’t have the industry connections.

@@justinl1743 For sure I didn't see anything as disrespectful, and I agree with that completely I definitely don't think musical ability/talent=financial success. It's weird, but that's the world we seem to live in

How so? I think he’s just collaborating and working on adding value, also his stuff is dope af imo. It’s not like he’s teaching people how to make $ with garbage beats

@@DillyDGIB I agree. I wasn't trying to make a direct comparison of what he is doing compared to a pyramid scheme, it was something about how he talked about it reminded me of how people in a pyramid scheme or MLM talk about their business. With my personal experiences the thought gave me a chuckle. I imagined something like Monat but with drum loops and chord packs. Imagine inviting friends and family over to a "beat party" trying to get them to buy your beats. 😅
