I don't get why people think this is making America more lazy? This would be so useful! Not because you don't have to read signs, but think of how much time it will cut down on! Moms who have to take their kids with them will find this as a blessing! They've got their kids to worry about- we don't need them running off! This cart could keep them on course, and prevent their kids from begging for things in aisles they walk through looking for milk. ILOVETHIS

I can understand the 'why can't people just read signs' sentiment, but i think the GPS could be pretty useful. what if you just wanted to find one specific item or one specific brand in the whole store? store signs are not always very clear, and sometimes products are placed in different sections than what you would expect. if you were a regular customer of the store, you would know your way around and wouldn't really use the GPS for any other reason.

Most stores, including Wal-Mart and Target, already have kiosks throughout the store where you can scan the item to get the price. Most people are just too lazy to look for and use them.

I used to work for a supermarket years ago and its unbelievable how some people can't read simple signs. Society is become more and more lazy. I was at the mall today and it struck me at how many people wait to park close as possible to the store when there are plenty of parking spaces not too far. GET YOUR FAT ASSES TO DO THE WALKING! The time it takes to find a spot and park I'm already in the store!

What has to be takken in account is that shops have interest in that people go trough many places in the store and/or stay as long as possible inside. Now we have to explain them that the consumer will only go trough the products that interested him at the beginning ? Or maybe would it be shifted with someting like passing more time on the internet site creating the list / having a "creative" list system ? ^_^

@sbx213 I think it also in the job description you are suppose to help customers. No customers no pay. hehe but it does occur to me sometimes where I cant find my own groceries, sometimes its due to, too much things happen in our mind or prolly in a hurry. But this video I kinda have a disagreement, why? people will loose their jobs if everything is automated..

Solution: Stop using membership/discount cards so that they can track your history of what kind of shopper you are. Your information will be used against you in the near future if you continue to blindly submit to a tracking card for supposed "discounts."

Oh great. In the future I can run my own store. And it will be a one-man operation LOL. I'll create a hologram avatar as a cashier and have robots deliver and purchase goods to stock the shelves. The money will go into my bank account.

the one big thing i can see with this is a high theft risk. without the customer taking all of their items out and on to the belt, and the cashier scanning them . all the customer would have to do is pretend they scanned it and just put it in the bag. they could keep doing that and make off with a lot and in turn cost the store alot of money.

It doesnt make people more lazy as much as it makes our lives easier. What about cars? Didn't that make people too lazy to walk a few miles to the market like in the olden days? And the internet? Did that make people too lazy to browse the aisles of a library instead?

I am waiting for the day where all super markets world wide are fully computerized and automatic. Supermarkets where shelves stock themselves, shopping carts return themselves, computer intelligent delis follow through with precise orders, items sold and remained are kept on record. Imagine a store where you can keep track with your spending by having a scanner count the price, sale, and tax. Imagine the convenience of either buying your products by phone or by an automatic cashier that instantly scans your products in a second and even bugs them carefully according to the products' kind: you wouldn't have eggs, bleach, bread, and meat all in the same bag either. Finally, when the store is closed at night, you can make purchases with your card from a computer window, housed with a hard casing to prevent vandalism, in a protected parking lot (so you do not get robbed). The window would provide a list of categories each with a selection of products, you select a product, the automatic shelf stockers in the store will put the selected product(s) into the automatic shopping cart and wait for your purchase either by cash or card before sending itself down a suspended belt to your specific lot. I would imagine, the maintenance would be one thing, but the very few people that would work there would probably get paid more than minimum wage (if the company is so greedy), and more so if those few people know how to maintain and repair the store's technology. Heck, no longer would people have to work on holiday evenings or perhaps even the day if you could make purchases from you parking lot. Everyone would win.

+The Kehwanna Coast My supermarket has scan as you shop with certain items using RFID, a total is kept on the terminal and relevant information and promotions are uploaded and suggested. Trolleys literally return themselves as they hold a deposit until you take it back, this enables you to shop how you want to and bag them correctly whilst going round the store. there are also scan tunnel's that recognise items at break neck speed along side self scan terminals. these terminals require one member of staff per six terminals, which then save a helluva lot of man-hours. High risk and value items have integrated security tags on them that only deactivate when arriving at the pay terminals, Random scan checks will take place where a staff member will scan 4/5 items from your trolley to verify you have scanned them. This is a massive hypermarket that i use every Saturday evening, generally spending around £100 and i must speak to a human one out of every five visits!

It won't be that simple this system comes with a no privacy to people just like websites, banks, electronic payroll, etc. Everything electronic will all be monitored and recorded by banking institution's the NSA and all GOV agencies, anything these agencies need to know about you will be at their finger tips. They will even know what time and day you take a shit, your house, life and car will be under their control, not to mention the number that will be representing your identity most of this is already in practice it will just be more efficient and more controlling over your life. The land of the free day's is over they need to change the national anthem it doesn't apply to modern times.

@sbx213 You're talking about two completely different things. Yes, people waiting for a close spot is down right lazy, but all the electronic signs is technology. Why have plastic tags that show the incorrect price when you can have an electic one that updates. Technology is always being improved to better our society. I don't even know why you started talking about the whole parking situation anyways. That has nothing to do with this video.
