Welcome back to Navel Gazing at Camp David.
This week we are enjoying a Future Yacht episode and having a sneak peek at one of the most exciting vessels in the last five years…
The Rapido 50XS trimaran!
Today we will,
1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels.
2. Do a full tour asking, "What would Sylvia say?"
3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier
4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5-year-old comparables.
5. And finally give it a "Dave Score" and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts.
As always, all this fun will be sandwiched between a pairing of wine, or rather Spirits, and a work of art from the same region as the guest yacht, in an effort to capture the culture and people who gave birth to these wonderful vessels.

Now THIS is a trimaran to be excited about!! Having seen La Vagabonde's 60 and the space they have, I'd much rather have the XS, particularly the 63 if they ever make it. But even this 53XS looks like a SIGNIFICANT improvement!! And I doubt this beast would even notice the extra 800 lbs. Speed, comfort, style, safety...it's all there!! I really hope they build an XS at some point so we can have a proper "real world" look at her. Incidentally, have you looked at the Windelo 50 or 54? It's like an eco-friendly version of the Rapier 550, which is a badass machine in its own right. Worth a look if you haven't already.

On the topic of monohulls. Sure. it may not have the performance. But for me the mono alternative is the super sleek Amel 54. Its such a well thought layout. And it's just beautiful craftmanship. And VERY safe. While you can get it for just 480$ while having 7+2(saloon couch) berths which even tops the 55!

A very comprehensive video , thank you. Cruising boats usually spend a lot of time at anchor , so you want maximum solar , and maximum ventilation to reduce generator run time. The extra water and fuel tankage on the Balance is nice for peace of mind ....

Awesome comparison as always! You definitely got me to want to try that Vietnamese gin while sailing on a rapido (gotta love Vietnamese communism) while wearing a shirt just like the one you're wearing. Love the interior too. 🙂 But as far as owning a Rapido, finding a place to park over 10 meters of beam seems like a nightmare. Taking care of so much real estate is also intimidating.

There’s absolutely no way I would spend €1.5 million for a boat that has a wet head. Don’t get me wrong, we’re talking about a crew cabin with a wet head sure fine, for the main cabin in a €1.5 million boat, no way am I paying that kind of money for a wet head

My only concern about McConaghy is build quality. Specifically electrical. I have heard that there are issues. Having said that , it’s purely hearsay.

I am not sure you can use Neel in your comparisons any more, IF you want a round the world boat. Their quality issues continue to haunt them. It seems you get what you pay for.

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I have not, and can't find any news or announcements about a management change. A Neel owner did a YT video fairly recently showing terrible cracks at ALL bulkheads and joints. I can't find it now, but it was really bad. Obviously Neel is not tabbing or fiberglassing their joints, at least on this boat. I am rooting for Neel - I am a trimaran owner, (Farrier Super Tramp) and would love to own a cruising tri. Neel's designs are variable. There are some really good design elements and some real head scratchers. The 52 seems to have the fewest bad compromises, but I would insist on touring the factory and seeing exactly how they are putting everything together.

Nice breakdown, but o52 data is not quite accurate. Displacement is 12.5mt and base price is now 1'380'000 euro as stated in O'kelly's last video.

I noticed in the chart that the all hh's have quality scores of 8 but then you have a lagoon with 9?

Please take my Dave Score chart with a grain of salt. Over the last 18 months I have learned so much from the audience that I really should go back and restore everything. Having said that, it’s probably the 55 or 65 that got that score and Lagoon puts waayyyy more into their upscale boats. Also, this is all from the perspective of Sylvia and she is a city girl to the core. Deeeppp core, so HH wouldn’t hold a candle to Lagoon in her eyes. Lol. I still have my work cut out.

From all i saw and heard the neel trimarans are Not quality boats. They are literally a swimming piece of shite. I really Like the rapido trimarans but for me they look a bit too powerfull for a couple. You can see the problems la vagabonde is having.

The disappointing thing is the builder can't even provide an actual real picture of the yacht fully built. They are asking so much for it while offering just renders of it. They are lazy or just not professional enough to present their product properly. It would big NO go for me. For their asking price, you can go with a custom aluminum cat

Hey Healer. Thanks for watching. I hear your concern but would disagree with your conclusion for a few reasons. All but the biggest production builders sell off renders for new models. 1. No one has the available capital to build a highly specialized performance yacht on spec without a buyer. 2. Buyers of yachts in this price range (except for big production models) expect to get exactly what they want. That means customization. That means you cannot build a spec yacht. 3. Rapido have three existing models with many hulls in the water which prove their designs, abilities and quality. The 53XS is simply an evolution of the 50. 4. The design is also penned by a highly respected international naval architectural firm. I hope this puts things into perspective. I can assure you that the guys at Rapido are highly professional and credible in the industry. (…and ,no. No one paid me to say it. Lol!) Thanks so much for watching!!

The CEO can build one and brag to all his friends about his amazing yacht company. In Vietnam he would be pimping. If they are a young company they need to raise a few million and build a few and bring them on boat shows.

Wasted space...only one usable area in mid section. Stupid for me! I want storage bedrooms for guess etc. Trimaran that use these areas for functional use are smarter
