That could've and should've gone on for a few more hours. I'll never tire of hearing and integrating wisdom that emits from Ian MacKaye.

We need more musicians doing this if their are no shows right now, I'd love to listen to a Q&A all day and hear stories.

I would vote for Wayne Kramer for President. He's more honest and far more articulate than many politicians.

You're an optimist, Karl. I'd say he's more honest and articulate than most-all but a very few-pols. imo, of course.

That is enough genius to break that stage between those two.

I clicked on this for Wayne Kramer (of course!) but was pleased to hear MacKaye. I'm not really into his stuff but am an avid reader of Henry Rollins column for the L.A. Weekly and since they've known each other for 40-odd years, he is referenced at least once a month in a weekly article. Kinda feel like I know him.

I took tons of music programs at the schools he's talking about, kind of sad what has happened, how the rest of the generations do not get full blown music advocacy in a public classroom, not just band class, but a class all about music and music history.

That's funny how he says his first song was called trans am....then the band trans am came a decade or so later!

Human beings are all the same. If these two were huge successes and made hundreds of millions of dollars, they’d pat themselves on the back for a life of hard work and their life philosophy would be that of the most hardcore capitalist rightie. They’d say it’s your fault for not working to get a huge audience. They’d say if you didn’t break the drug laws you wouldn’t have gone to prison. They’d speak in floaty, nebulous, vague terms about the purity of effort and the lofty spirituality of intention. They’d have published a few business books about it too. Since reality told them that nobody cares, they’ve both adapted and adopted this current view of art and commerce as ego-defense. Gotta keep that shield up to preserve some sense of dignity.

My first punk show was at the hoedown in the tri cities WA. It was a local favorite "crown opening for the gits!( Rip Mia !!! ) Joe says during the intro to a song "" u know what sucks ? When kids come see the show with gobs of money in their pockets, and lots of nice smells on their body, the right haircuts, the right shoes, right tattoos,.. and a big fuckin SELF RIGHTEOUS. ATTITUDE!!! AND SOON THE WHOLE VENUE TURNS INTO A SLAM PIT WITH NO SAFE HAVEN TO BE FOUND!!! THAT WAS MY BAPTISM INTO PUNK ROCK AND 30 SOME YEARS LATER IM STILL THE SAME 17 YEAR OLD ADHD KID ... SLAM PITS ARE WHAT INSTILLED ALOT OF COURAGE TO STAND UO AGAINST BULLYING ETC.. THE GOOD FIGHT! ETC

Love you Ian!! My favorite line from a Fugazi song stacks!! " America is just a word but I use it"!! HEARD IT FIRST TIME WHEN I WAS GOING TO THE 9TH GRADE.. IT GRABBED ME... ALL THESE YEARS LATER... IM 46 .. I GET EXACTLY WHAT IT MEANS AT LEAST IN MY EXPERIENCE... NAMELY LIVING ON THE STREET SLEEPING IN DOORWAY AND ALCOVES AND FEELING THE BRUNT OF HOW HYPOCRITICAL SOCIETY IS INSPITE OF THEIR VIRTUE SIGNALING!🤔💩
