This is by far the best fin box installation guide on KZbin! Big thanks! 🤙🏼 Can you explain the process of how to glass over / around the fin boxes? And the removal of tape and glass from where the fins slot in once glassed.

Thanks for the comment. Our Master Class Video Series covers all the details of glassing over the fin boxes removing tape including reinforcement and what to do if you screw up for any reason.

How about showing it on a glassed board doing a repair/replacement?

I always wonder if the board has a deep concave the fins will be tilted inwards. So there would be less cant if you imagined a level line across the board. But if the board is dead flat the fins would have the 6.5 degrees cant . So I'm thinking the jig should be packed to compensate for any concave ? 🤔

Fin can't degree is always adjusted with reference to a flat line across the board. You can use a straight edge across deep concaves if needed.

Cool. Thanks 👍🏻

Wouldn’t the bottom contours affect how accurate the cant angle jig worked?

Fin cant is set with a fin cant angle gauge when installing. Futures fin base angle is 6.5 degrees for front fins but you can tweak it to any angle when installing. 5 to 9 degrees is typical.

Question can you use any router for this jig installment kit or does have to be the router you guys sell

The install kit is designed for us with the Greenlight Router or Makita RT0701C

Worked with my Makita! The plunge routing takes some skill. This was my first attempt. But all good now! Thanks for the video. Huge help!

Something still confusing me a bit is whether or not the dummy fins have cant built in to them like off the shelf fins. Ive noticed my fins having a significant amount of cant built in to the fin by its self. We say the fronts should have 6.5 degrees of cant, but what exactly does that mean? Does that mean a typical install requires a perfect right angle to the surface of the board so the "built in" cant of the standard futures fins will be 6.5 degrees from the surface of the board? Or Does it mean with a perfectly vertical, non-canted dummy fin you need to lean it over 6.5 degrees to give an overall total cant of over 6.5 degrees, maybe 10-13 degrees total?

The dummy install fins have the same 6.5 degree cant as the fins. Use a cant angle gauge when installing to set he fins anywhere between 5 degrees and 9 degrees depending on your preference. Less cant = more drive, more cant = more turning...

@@GreenlightSurfSupply thanks for the info. I'll probably keep it right at 6.5 or 7 degrees on the fronts and whatever typical quad trailers are. My thought is that I can just install the boxes perfectly vertical (to a flat reference off the board bottom contours) and just pick up the cant from the futures fins themselves.

Oh thanks ,I also think like you and I'm always confused about it ,so annoying. So if we use future fin box,we can set it vertical with bottom of the board because future fin they already have cant with themselves, right?
