Amiboshi probably thought that as long as he was alive, his side of the Seiryu Seven would be more ruthless in their attacks against the Suzaku Seven. He saw the kindness and goodness in Miaka's heart when she tried saving him from falling into the river. He knew (I'm sure of it, imo) that the best chance for _BOTH_ groups to have peace is to give Miaka and the Suzaku Seven the upper hand. At least that is how I see it. (Sorry this was 6 years later.)

All of the Seiryu 7 had a difficult and tragic life. Their nations was on constant war and their surroundings is full of rotten, greedy, people. Who took advantage of them. Nakago got her mom raped by the military men, Soi was sold as a child prostitute, Ashitare become a star of freak show Amiboshi, and Suboshi parents got killed in the war and it traumatized Suboshi that he lived a life of closemindedness ans hatred. Well Miboshi is a man turned into a dark spirit possesing anyone he likes. Suzaku 7 also had their fare share of difficult lives. But the Suzaku 7 was lucky because atleast majority of Konan people are good. That leveled them. And find the goodness in the world. Well Konan's patron god is the god of love right?.

Nagako is definitely manipulating Amiboshi's twin brother against the Suzaku warriors just like he's manipulating Yui against Miako. He's deceiving them and taking advantage of their grief and loss, spinning it into rage and pitting them against his adversaries. He really is the worst kind of villain because he's a total unfeeling sociopath, using everyone against eachother as tools in the furtherance of his own goals.

Yui has gone into mental trauma for a while that she refused to meet anyone, she was only introduced to suboshi when miaka was about to summoned suzaku, she never met amiboshi as he was sent away by nakago to infiltrate suzaku during those traumatic times it's just sad coz amiboshi's flute can actually heal her :( hope there will be an fy remake with at least a decent screentime on seiryu side and a deeper perspective on yui, just to be fair.
