Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age Yiazmat Kill Guide
It's time to tackle Yiazmat, the game's ultimate monster (though the five judges are much harder)! With 50,000,000 health and a range of instant death attacks, this grumpy dragon can be one tanky beast. I share with you the strategy I used to take him down in one 20 minute visit.

Final Fantasy 12 was first released way back in 2006 on the PS2. At the time, it was considered somewhat controversial by many Final Fantasy fans due to its departure from traditional FF gameplay. However, it is now looked back on fondly and many would consider Final Fantasy XII to be the best entry in the franchise. In 2007 the International Zodiac edition was released (in Japan only), and this version of the game included a more traditional job-based system and a new battle areana. For this remastered release, these additional changes are being brought to us fans in the West for the first time ever - along with high resolution textures and remastered soundtrack!

Yep. I remember on the original with the ps2 there was no turbo mode. I fought him using only 3 main party members (lvl 87 each) and neglected my stand by the whole game (like lvl 20ish each). Took me like a week to kill him... and even with expose and wither on the second half of the fight the max damage you can do was 6,999 and he would do around 3,000 with wither. Now that was a hard fight but also extremly fucking fulfilling once it was over. Unlike this

I fought Yiazmat on vanilla once...took me 3 hours. Never again. Turbo mode is a blessing, and the Zodiac versions actually nerfed Yiazmat a bit. Still challenging, but the vanilla days were brutal.

Zodiac edition really trivialized this fight. I still remember this taking me a week and a half to beat. Especially when he went critical. I had to switch to the LOS reflect Darkga strat. Ps2 players really had it rough.

Tip: The further you are from the center the more likely Yiazmat's going to use Death Strike

I always use my healer and if my characters get pushed back towards the wall or stairs, I always run into the middle and use retreat to bring the other 2 in the middle so that doesnt happen.

8:03 I have defeated Yiazmat for the first time in my first attempt after defeating hell wyrm 😆😃 with similar set up like yours, but Basch is my damge dealer as a tank (knight with great sword) with beserk and lure %100👌 plus debuffing Yiazmat at the start is great move and I highly recommend it ( expose ETC ).

Once I got the Wither technick the fight went from being impossibly hard one to a somewhat long fight. Bubble belts and decoy helped a lot.

OMG Yes! When I played this on the PS2, I was 13, I was too scared to face Yiazmat at that time. I bought it for PS4 and my Switch. My Switch is the console that I am playing it on right now. 143 hours in and Yiazmat is my final obstacle before beating Vayne. I beat the game in the past but not everything like I am doing on my Switch.

First time playing FF12 Zodiac Age. Granted I did play the original upon release but it's been so long I had forgot a lot and much has changed. Your guides, especially in that damned Great Crystal have been very useful. I only lack Omega now before I put this behemoth of a game down, unless I say screw it and decide to platinum trophy, in which case I'll likely be watching more of your stuff... missing abilities/beastiary mostly. Going from the pixel remasters to this was quite the leap in differences from old school classics. 👍

yiazmat will only regen HP if you leave the arena while he has regen on himself, if you are going to leave, make sure he dosnt have that buff on him, and you can leave the arena for any length of time that you want, he will never regen his health

This boss is bugged. Zoning and and out glitches him, he just stands there you can snipe him to death. Just stay on the stairs and never set foot close to him, he just stands there casting bravery on himself. The true version of him is in trial mode where you can’t do that

Nice thing about the update, on the PS5 version at least. you can change your jobs with Montblanc now like the other platforms. so that was a nice update. I've messed with mine a little throughout my play through. but my Bhushi/Shikari was always gunna be my Yaz slayer. along with my healer having dark shot.

Btw if you do reverse someone and u have holy as soon as the reverse is on holy them and they go full hp but make sure u got faith on. And damn i missed this fight and game i played it back on ps2 when we didnt get the option for speed. Imagine the hours i spent on this boss

I did it a little different after all the stat breaks I had a berserked bravery skikari/foebreaker with darkblade, red battlemage/archer with black robes black mask casting reflected darkga off my party and a white mage/machinist to heal, cast decoy and hastega. Went down in about 20 minutes at 4 times speed from start to end.

You can also kill him from the doorway using the Invisible Bow and an ally set to only buff Bravery and Haste and he won't even know you're there if you want to do with 0 chance of failure.

Just a heads up, you can be away as long as you like and Yiazmat will not recover health. I left after getting frustrated with constant Death Strikes and came back 3 hours later to his health right where I left it.

I did it! I beat him% it took me forever bc I made some mistakes. Like accidentally unequipping my sword for a part of the fight. But I did it on my first try!!

A year later and I played the game again. Beat him today for the second time. I didn’t have really good equipment, so it took a while. But I used wither/expose. Once you get him all the way down his hits are really weak so I stopped casting protect and reverse. Kept Vaughn decoyed and berserked with genji equipment and ultima sword. Balthier buffed and cured until the party was well then berserked. Ashe buffed and cured and resurrected. At the end of the fight, I took balthier out and brought in Fran to buff and haste. This helped Ashe keep her mp and was she was able to cast darkga to help take him down completely. Stayed on the stairs so I didn’t have to worry about traps. Used arise and took the time to ether when our rhythm was good.

You can but it is quicker with Darkblade + Black Robes & just use Wither & Expose. His magic damage at most is 300 from his special atk. His atk & def are very high though. I Just had Ashe atk with Vaan & Penelo healed & de-buffed. It take 15 mins. max.

Yeah I had Vaan as my main atker & I had my Bushi Ashe Atk & Heal if needed. & Penelo focus heal & Spamming Expose & Wither. Yes the status effects weakin that you put on him & you have to re-apply it when his heal is 50% & at 25%. x2 Genji Gloves. & Penelo had Ribbon. For me it took 12:37 it would have been 8 mins if his animation could b skipped. All my characters were lv 78-82 when I did this. Weapons: Darkblade, Kumba, & Staff of Magi. White Mask help adsorb his white breath atk.

Easier way is to use ribbon, with all your characters casting reverse on themselves all of yiazamat's attacks heal you! Use two characters attacks as casting darkaga and then a tank with either with great trango, kumba with a shield with high evade, or yagyu dark blade or masamune! With characters with raise or arise but the key is to keep reverse on all your characters!

i remember trying the old decoy/reverse combo with zodiac spears on him back in the day and struggling so much and it taking so long i finally decided to try to just run in pop a quickening, let him kill team A, swap to team B pop another quickening and run like hell to the save crystal. after idek how many times repeating that i finally beat him, albeit the cheese way. looking forward to doing it legit this time with my ps2

about the mp u can use siphon on 1 of ur other ally to take all of his mp on 1 go but u have to do it ur self couz i believe there is no good gambit for it this help with any long fight ashe siphon vaan that 600 mp back

I just beat him again with a reverse decoy combo, using the yagu darkblade on vann my shikari/foebreaker, I used all the stat withers even when growing threat was used he never did more than 100 damage on anyone physically and less than 200 with his breaths, most of the time my ashe who is full mage had nothing to do, bash knight/bushi with great trango and gendame shield, berserk him and vann when you are ready. Use the stat down techs till they start to miss, beat it in 1 and a half hours and with over 80% of my items still. PS2 days I did beat him took me 8 hrs to do it at that time. My advice to anyone wanting to beat him use the debuffs so it makes growing threat useless.

Now I’m to play it again and I can’t remember how to beat it, what’s the ultimate weapons, shields, accessories and how many times can I repeat to get it? Unfortunately (Brawler) I bought the license for it. Which is meant to be left it alone for open rare item.

First time I beat him on ps2 took about 4 hrs give or take. I'm now about to fight hell wyrm lvl 50 across the board no reddes vahn is uhlan and foebraker balthier machinist and time mage basch is a knight and bushi ashe black mage and red mage penelo is white mage and shikari. I defeated Yiazmat with: Ashe: Knight/Bushi | Weapon/Shield/Acc: Trango Tower/Gendarme Shield/Genji Glove (you don't really need to use Trango Tower and Gendarme. You could use Masamune if you don't have those, or any other weapon you see fit that doesn't have holy elemental. Trango Tower just makes the fight quicker) Gambits: 1 Ally: Any -> Phoenix Down 2 Ally: Any -> Crono's Tear 3 Ally: Any -> Gold Needle 4 Ally: Balthier -> Faith 5 Ally: Penelo -> Faith 6 Self -> Bravery 7 Self -> Bacchu's Wine 8 Foe: nearest visible -> Attack Balthier: Uhlan/Time Battlemage | Weapon/Acc: Zodiac Spear/Power Armlet Gambits: 1 Ally: any -> Reverse 2 Ally: any -> Phoenix Down 3 Ally: Ashe -> Decoy 4 Ally: any -> Crono's Tear 5 Ally: MP < 40% -> Hi-Ether 6 Ally: any -> Hastega 7 Ally: any -> Gold Needle 8 Ally: Ashe -> Berserk 9 Ally: any -> Float (optional) 10 Foe: nearest visible -> Attack Penelo: White Mage/Bushi | Weapon/Acc: Masamune/Sage's Ring Gambits: 1 Ally: any -> Reverse 2 Ally: any -> Arise 3 Ally: Ashe -> Decoy 4 Ally: any -> Bubble 5 Ally: any -> Crono's Tear 6 Ally: MP < 40% -> Hi-Ether 7 Ally: any -> Protectga 8 Ally: any -> Bravery 9 Ally: any -> Faith 10 Ally: status = Sap -> Regen 11 Foe: any -> Dispel 12 Foe: nearest visible -> attack This setup works for Hell Wyrm, Omega Mark 12, Zodiark (somewhat) and Gilgamesh. You will need to add or change some gambits on Ashe and Balthier against Gilgamesh to heal Sleep. Although this strategy _kinda_ works against Zodiark, I would not recommend you to have Berserk on Ashe, or any gambit at all if she's the leader. Just turn it off. Play ATB on Wait and slow, and play accordingly to what happens during the fight. You should equip Demon Shield on her and Black Mask on Penelo. You should also try to finish him off with Quickenings before he builds up the physical attack immunity. The strategy doesn't work at all against the Judges. Yiazmat is an easy fight, really. As long as you have the right strategy, it's really easy. It just takes long to kill.

ok i fought him last night and i spammed darkga on him. he kept using that move that kills you instantly. i beat him after a couple of hours. just use darkga

Have you defeated the Hell Wyrm yet. That is apparently essential to getting this hunt. He is in the underground level the Sochen Cave Palace below Old Archades, in the hall of the wroth god. You should have a scale from one of the hunts in your key items. Go to the Cerobi Steppe into the area called the Northsward and search for windmill #10. A scholar will trade the scale for the Ageworn key necessary to get into the hall of the wroth god. The area called Destiny's watch has a locked door leading to the door the Ageworn key opens. To unlock this door, start at the bottom of the screen and go in a circle following the path of the sun from sunrise to sunset. When you have completed a circle, it will indicate that the door is unlocked.

Immediately responding on how my fight with yiazmat went after beating omega, so I went in with Vaan, Ashe, and Basch I didn't have super high equipment but a shit ton of items. I overall didn't feel like speeding up the time while fighting this boss and it took a good while to kick, my weapons also weren't very strong either because I'd rather finish all the side quests then story then trial mode to make it more challenging for myself, I did enjoy kicking yiazmat but God I'm going to hate it during the trial.

For people doing the platinum, I killed the weak Yiazmat in Trial 98 and the trophy popped. Cheap? Yes. Has this game taken enough hours from me? Yes.

The God Emperor Sorry for the late response lol, but actually, against gilgamesh, you can use steal after his animations and clearly see if he has something to steal. At the start of the battle you can steal only potions if i remember correctly, but in each battle, when his hp get lower, you can steal genji stuff from him. Just keep stealing after every animation he does, and be sure the string doesn't say "gilgamesh has nothing to steal" but (ex.) "vaan couldn't steal" and keep going till you steal stuff from him. Your party must be high level to survive and steal at the same time tho, i had no problems with 3 on 70 and 3 on 60. Sorry for this long comment and for my bad english, just wanted to point out this thing.

@@Vicioussama sorry to butt in here but I just had to mention that once Gilgamesh is below 40% HP the one and ONLY item that you can steel from him is the Genji Gloves until he hits 20% so.... No RNG there, just knowledge.

Nice one fuzz tried ps4 za and I still think where za is far superior to ps2 version the original still grabs me more I like to know I've spent time and have satisfaction of knowing I did at normal speed.from a perspective of an ageing 53 yr old dnd player in my youth I think if you put yourself in there position ashe and co there is no reason why they can't learn each spell and Job techniques, when you think of what they had on there plate they would have to have been on the best at everything no doubt they would teach each other there various spells and such ...ill give it to you straight there is no reason they wouldn't teach one another vaan a natural bushi shakiri as the limited edition strategy guide I've got shows you balthier is the machinist foebreaker he just is Fran black mage archer Bach knight Ukraine which he is a knight of order ashe red battlemage time battlemage penelo white mage monk which is more of the ps2 version cast them the guide practically shows you as much it would seem that woul be my set up and fuzz mate I pretty much used them as such especially in the later game they are highly skilled swords magics techniques potions remedies Ghostbusters danjuro dagger three medallions quest grimoires me thinks that they have pursued up so it would be more palatable for younger audiences basically an intelligent knight a princess with royal lineage a very skilled Vieira magic ousting from her and the two adapts vaan and penelo could would and should be able to do all those things no some Job system ...anyway great tutorial on yiazmat keep posting ..love to chat over wattsapp live steam ...this is Ravenwind 1 signing off

I beat him longer and I was more on a defensive side. Vaan is my tank/healer equipped with power armlet. Vaan does 10k pr hit. Penelo is my buffer/magic user. She uses faith on herself and Darkgra on Yiazmat. She does about 15k per hit. Balthier is my berserker with yagyu ninja sword. He does 20k to 25k per hit.

Just as a tip to anyone, if you have pure melee dps in your party and you either run out of ethers or hi ethers. Just syphon mp from your melee dps, mp problems solved :)

So I was under the impression you can leave and come back and continue the fight at your leisure. This is only half true. I got him to fifty percent and decided to duck out and top up. As soon as I went back in he doubled his level (health remained the same). It wasn't long before he was just running around one shotting my characters (level 85+). So they stood there spamming arise, raise and PD instead of doing any damage. I literally could not do the last 5 bars of damage to him and game overed. So yes you can leave the fight and hit the near by crystal to heal up but do so at your own peril.
